Hey
From what I have been reading on the ATC 200x is the 1st gen isnt as reliable as the 2nd gen, is that the only difference between the 2 generations or is suspension different also? The way I look at it is if there is a 1984 atc 200x still running today its reliable. If the suspension is different than the monoshock I had on my old trike than thats a different issue. I looked at the VS part of the forum could not find any posts. If someone could show me the difference between 1985 ATC200x vs 1986 ATC200x, to me the big difference would be the suspension. I will be buying an ATC200x within 3-6months my wife talked me out of the ATC350x for now.

Thanx for the help.

The 83-85 200x's are very different machines from the later 86-87 200x's,they hardly have any interchangeable parts. You need to weigh out the advantages and disadvantages of them. 1st gen 200x parts are plentiful and cheap, 2nd gen are a bit harder to come by. 1st gen had kick starter issues. 2nd gen had a 6 speed, 1st gen 5 speed. As for reliability, pre-rebuild to my 200x it smoked like a train and had little compression. Started first or second kick always. I went out there today to get it ready to ride in -15 and started first kick. Maybe im just lucky, or these things are bullet proof. It also beat a raptor 350.

This answered most of my questions, the only thing i was wondering if the suspension was the same on both generations? If so ill go with the 1st gen they seem easier too find, plus plentiful parts is always a good thing.

Thanx for the help. (if i posted this twice i am a noobie)

Answered my own question went to internet and found the manuals for 83-85 ATC200X and manual for 86-87 ATC200x the suspension looks the same which is good. Here is the webiste i found the manuals, it also has manuals for Yamaha/Kawasaki trikes also. And best of all the manuals are free, heres the link http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manuals/.

Thanx for all the help :)

you can put a crf230f engine in a 1gen 200x, with no modification!!!!191944191945191946191947 :naughty: ;) you have to consider this

No mods? What about the brake.

1st gen all the way for me simply on the basis of cost effective builds.

The only unreliable thing about any 200x is the owners maintenance schedule. If you take care of them they are as reliable as a hammer.
