download the manual for your machine. I'm pretty sure that hole is for chain inspection & for lubricating WITH CHAIN LUBE.

judging by your posts it seems you are just trying to get a rise out of folks. If you are really that ignorant to the operations of your machine download a manual and may god help you along the way.

not trying to get a rice rise out of anyone. i really am that 'ignorant'... as you put it. i'm just a novice around these machines with little mechanical background, trying to keep these old things going for my kids to enjoy.

and i do agree with you, i should download a manual to have on hand.

and hey, this is a 'new member' area..

We were all there once Ben, everyone needs to start by asking questions that may seem dumb to the more experienced..

If you can't be more tolerant of the newbs, don't read the new member section..be nice you'll make more friends along the way!

I think this is a generic manual that covers 70-125cc. Should be some help to you http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manual...vicemanual.pdf (http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manuals/honda/atc70-125_1985_and_earlier_servicemanual.pdf)
