Hello

I'v heard of simple green industrial strength or brake cleaner, maybe not a great idea. The harsh chemicals will eat the plastic [ soften it]. I've neber found anything grat for that app. whatever you try try it on the bottom side first. Look for damage, soft paint etc.

Any chain auto store or home depot etc. I haven't used it for removing but it can't hurt anything.

hello

hard to do you can take it to paint shop have them try a small spot see how it looks. a polisher on a drill is too small and spins too slow.

you will need a plastic scrub brush

Use brake fluid not brake cleaner. I guess brake cleaner would work but it's nasty stuff.

Wipe down the whole fender with brake fluid and let it sit over night.

Next day, soak another rag or paper towel and apply some elbow grease.

I did this with my 70 front fender last week and I wiped down the rear last night so I could finish it up this weekend.

For polishing the plastics, there are a few threads discussing this.

Yep, jb is right. Brake fluid.

Sherwin Williams sells a product called Smart Strip, its a water based paint stripper. I put it on my plastic YT125 fenders, wrapped it with 3 mil plastic & let them sit over night. The next day I power washed them with a wide fan tip & it took the old paint right off.

Once you have removed the paint off your fenders, use a 60/40 mix of paint thinner and Boiled Linseed oil. Rub this on your exposed fenders and it will rejuvinate them. Make sure that you use rubber gloves and are outside or ventilated area. Also rinse the hell out of your wrags too because they can spontaniously combust. This treatment can be done and you will see a dramatic difference in brightness of your fenders. The paint thinner primes the surface and the Boiled linseed oil puts the oils back into the fenders. This works really well if you have sun damage or oxidation. You can find both at wallyworld or your local hardware store. Heck with removing the paint it may kill two birds with one stone.

Well Carb cleaner eats it in about 15 seconds then just wipe, I used a razor blade at a 90 degree angle and just scraped. When you do that I believe using a heat gun after will bring it back to factory shine. The razor trick gets out those scratches you get to, those minor little scratches.

The heat gun will only work well for light stuff, and you really have to know what you are doing. Really easy to over-heat them.

I have used the sanding/polishing method in the past and it is flawless every time.

What grit sandpaper do you use? I used a razor blade, then tried sanding, and polishing. The sanding didn't really do much and I was using like 220 grit or something like that.. maybe it was higher i dont remember lol

I started with a 220, spent hours on hours it seemed getting the bad out, then I worked my way up to 2000 almost without skipping any grit in between. All used with warm sudsy water & cold beer!

Haha, ok well thank you! I only did it for like 2 minutes expecting some results so I gave up. I didn't thought it was working at all.
