had it now two weeks, going pretty good after a new carb, plug, chain adjustment, and clean up..BUT not sure were i really want to go with this little hard tail. I got my 250sx lookin and running great and really enjoy ridding it...but this little beast (and it is a BEAST) is sooooo old school, tech wise if you know what i mean. not sure if it can ever be tuned to throttle up super smooth, pull start sucks, (lazy old fart rider) part of me wants to throw a lifan electric start in it, but i hate too loose the simi auto clutch. put some four wheeler foot pegs on it, and maybe an SX thumb throttle...etc I know it sounds like im venting out loud but i guess hoping to get some feed back on what you folks have done with these little trikes that you did not regret? its not in bad shape as is...its just showing its antiquity way more than my SX and i want it too be a solid rider with trail confidence. Here are some pics of it after i got it couple weeks ago..

If I were you, I would just ride it the way it is, instead of putting a bunch of money into it. It's a Honda so it should last you a while anyways, without putting a new motor on it. Plus, you get to keep the auto clutch. You can sand and paint it and make it look nice the way it is. The 185's have power anyways. If you want power out of it, you could rebuild the carb and put a new air cleaner on it, and jet it.
That's just what I would do, but if you have the money to put a new engine on it, why not?
Good luck with it!

Yea just ride it the way it is. You could do what i did, once my front tire went I new i needed bearings I took it all down to nothing, cleaned all grease up, repainted hubs, took motor apart and sandblasted the top end, polished my cdi cover, painted head cover black and wire wheeled the bottom end. Looked, and I mean looked real nice, that is until I rode it in the mud hahaha
All that stuff I did really spruced it up and for very very cheap. No need to put a bunch of money into a 185.

yea i get ya...i messed with it some more today...that little trike has way more "get up and go" than my SX ...still cant seem to get idle stable, might be an air leak in the head, everthing else seems tight, but you gotta love em..:) for their good and bad. Thanks for the words of advice

Fix er up, and run it the way it is. These are oldschool, but that has nothing to do with how they run. They will run better than any new machine they make, when they are tuned properly. If yours is not throttling up properly, you need to clean and or rebuild your carb. Goodluck.

I have the exact same trike. It's 100% bone stock, and I love it just like that.....ride it like it is and have fun :)
