Ok guys I am on the search for a trike that will be used for trail riding at my lake house and cruising around town. I am mainly looking for a 200x or 350x and a 250r isn't out of the question if I find a nice one. My questions are how trail friendly is the 250r and is there any other sport models that I am missing. I know from riding dirtbikes that 2strokes mx bikes require some modifications to be trail friendly, is this the same for the 250r?

I'd go with the 200x at first to be honest.

If I were you I would go for a 350x they're bigger and faster and have a lot more power

I'm a big guy, the 200x is a bit small for me..

The 250r with its weak low end and squirrelly top end is a bit of a handful for some..me included

The 350x, now that is the shlt!! A nice even power curve with lots of kick. Decent for tight turns, rough spots, and cruising with the kids..bit decide to get your adrenalin on and it will still blow your hair back !!

I'd try to ride a couple different ones but then you'll probably buy one of each.

The 250 sx (and es for that matter) also has quite a following.
I like the reverse feature when I front load into blackberries.

There are quite a few great vids of the es climbing trees (well, runs the front wheel up a tree) , and doing other impossible stuff.
Just youtube honda big red.
One guy rides it like a ballerina in a mud pit..
Well, they all do.

Yeah, one of each for sure.

So many right answers to choose from. Which do I want?

You are in the place so many of us were years before...start the journey and have fun along the way. We'll be here to answer thing along the way..

There is no wrong answer..but maybe along the way you'll find a machine you prefer. I have several...which is my fav?

Depends on the trail and the day..

One of my good friends has a really clean 200x and I have rode it a few times, it is definately a fun bike to ride. I have just always been a fan of speed and power so I am kinda leaning toward a 250r or 350x, I see 250r for sale in my area every so often but the 350x is hard to find around here. I am not too worried about the speed of the 250r, I grew up on dirtbikes and my dad had a tri-z until I was about 16. I know its a little different than dirt bikes but I think I can handle it, plus it would be fun to bring the 250r down to the local beach and let her rip.

Where do you ride in SE Texas? I'm in Beaumont. Went to the beach over by Johnsons Bayou yesterday. Good luck with the search!

well you left one out. the yamaha tri-z. it's probably not the best for trail riding, but that's what i do with mine mostly. but i would suggest getting a four stroke because the two strokes can foul a spark plug very easily when trail riding. but the tri-z is a beast. hope you find one.

200x all the way! I know uve said u have rode your friends once or twice but man dont miss out they are amazing in trails the best suspension and believe me they have more than enough power to get u through trails which is what u want especially if u plan on riding random trails. You never know what u will run into the 250r wouldnt do so well out here! Trails are extremley rocky, small creeks running through them and a bit muddy. Good luck

Well we mainly mud ride now, but I am wanting to get this to ride around town, at our Lakehouse at Sam Rayburn and take it to Holly Beach every now and then. You have to go to Louisiana to ride on the beach. For trail riding you can go to Sabine ATV park in Burkeville. It is about 1.5 hours from Beaumont area, lots of trails just watch out for the mudholes they are deep but you can go around most all of them.

I'd go with a 200x =) My trike is set up perfectly for me at the moment.. lots of acceleration and maybe 45 top end and 50 with 22s. Stock rear 200x sprocket and front is 14 with 20 inch holeshots on the back. Perfect trail trike! I'd go with a 200x over a 250r or 350x.. not because there's something wrong with them but because 200x's are plentiful so if something breaks you can fix it for cheap. I'm 182 pounds and this machine moves me perfectly. Let us know which one you go with!
