Seeing if anyone else is into lowered trucks, I'm currently buliding a 98 ranger reg cab step side.
Moderate lowering with 3 up front and 4 out back, I was considering slammed but I like this especially when i swap the motor, more of a quick street truck then slammed and stanced.
As of now I took the truck to the cab chassis and replaced whatever mechanical parts, ball joints, tie rods, bushing etc etc to put the truck at mechanically new
state. I'm running an 8.8 explorer axle with is larger sway bars. Upgraded breaks as well. I have them emblems shaved as well as the full rear of the truck which has many hours into it. As for wheels and tires i'm running 17's off a 04 stang with 245 245 17 fuzion zri tires
A few guys who've checked it out says its has a "mini" lighting look to it. As of now Im knocking out body work ad assembly for paint, Mechanically its done except the motor swap which will take place over the winter to both stay on budget and be able to use the truck as a lot cruiser for the summer.

I like lowered trucks but not bagged and frame notched lowered though. The stance of your Ranger is perfect in my opinion, now put a mildly built 302 or 351 under the hood and have a truck that can outrun a stock lightning!

Well thats what i'm building. I have a 351 with some mild port and polish work, mild cam and msd ignition. Slowly building it the way i want and when i park it back in the garage for winter ill do the swap then, along with boxing the chassis more beefy crossmembers and other supporting mods.

i like your plans! sounds like you're off to a great start. My sonic blue 03 L is dropped about 2 inches up front and around 1 or 2 inthe rear with drop spindles up front and drop shackles out back. Still holds 500 ft lbs tq to the ground just fine dropped :D

keep us posted, im new to the ford crowd still and learning to love them

what do you have to mod to get that motor in? new drive shaft? motor mounts? cutting on the firewall for clearance? just curious

Never got the whole lowered truck thing. Every time i hear of one or see one I rememeber a catch phrase someone said to me. Titz on a bull. What color will you paint it?

Hooker sells a kit comes with motor mounts tranny mounts and headers, with the motor removed and a sledge hammer you adjust the fire wall back 2" for clearance of the distribator cap.

No way would you stuff the Cleveland under the hood of a ranger without an insane amount of effort. Stuffing a moderately built 5.0 into my truck as I speak. EFI baby!

Love the lowered look, but it doesnt work for me. I like to drive over things.....

Love the S-10 above, but the Ranger I'm not so much into the "big rims", just too big for my taste.

Here is my super modded, ultra clean 85 S-15 with an 87 "small block" 2.8L V6 Dog :). Trust me.... it looks worse in person than in the photos :naughty:.

The 351 will be tight but take into consideration I am gonna shave my firewall which will also be moved back to accomidate the motor and I am not going to be running inner fenders or very much of them. Also massaging the headers. Shouldnt be too much trouble seeing I'm have my trade in welding and iron work. Plus the swap isnt gonna take place untill November and i have untill may or June to do it.

Too funny !

I had an '84 Ranger with the ultra-modded 2.8L with headers and 2 barrel carb. Had just enough power to ... ... ... pull itself off of a wad of gum on a hot summers eve. Love my Fords but THAT truck, was the biggest P.O.S. that I have ever owned. I only own Fords. :beer

I have owned Ford, Chevy, and Toyota, sadly the toyota had a rusted out frame and sat around 15 years waiting for body rust repairs that never happened. The ford had a 2.3L with the dual plugs per cyl, one bad coil = 65mph max speed unless the wind is behind you, then you can sneak up to around 75mpg, oh did I say it got around 15mpg like that :D. S-15 so far has been a better truck for being reliable, but it has received the rust cancer long long ago. Oh it takes around a mile to get upto 50-55ish lol. Once I burn a whole take up (holds over 20 gal O.o), I'll know what kind of mpg it gets, looking like around 20 which isn't bad for an automatic 4x4.

I won't rat on Fords, since overall they are pretty good machines, I just don't support the Ford engines so well, prefer Oldsmobile engines, but with them you are stuck with v8s 350 or 455 from the late 60s into the 70s. Seems like Chevy cab door pins keep their alignment better, ford owners always slam the doors, Chevy owners just shut theirs... except mine is rusted so bad i have to slam mine too :). Never seen a Toyota that had to be slammed, Mazda seems pretty good too for the smaller trucks.

I need to lower my 1998 Ford F150 but the mods I've done so far might interest a few....or really piss you off. There seems to be no one in the middle. I dropped a mildly modified GM 5.3 and T56 six speed into it. Just got it going days ago so I still have some minor issues like permanent ECU placement...etc. to finish. Next I will address the suspension including lowering it about 3". Have to do a brake job this week which will include slotted rotor, steel braided hose lines and EBC brake pads. The engine bay picture is a preliminary fitment shot. It looks a lot dressier now.
