Hi, New to this forum have been reading posts regarding atc200 models and am confused at what model I have and would like some help to find out what model and year if possible. I found an old bike in a shed at work and found out who owned it and have bought it for 50 bucks but I dont know what it is. The bike is a 200 as it has 197cm3 on the barrel. It has hi and low lever on the left hand side of the engine. It has no front or rear suspension. It has electric start and pull start. The 'dash' has a nuetral light and reverse light and ignition barrel. It is chain drive has a rear carrier and towball bracket. It looks like there is a splined shaft by the gear lever (possibly for reverse but has no lever on it). It has a square headlight. vin number is jh3tb051x00262897. I am trying to find out the model so I can work out how the reverse works. It seams to run fine after sitting for about 6 years. any help will be appreciated.:wondering

Hello

Well since you didn't mention the manufacturer, I'm going to guess it's a 1983 ATC 200E Honda.

Google search is your friend

1980 200e big red by the vin
And matches your description

Not sure 80 had reverse, the shaft you see by the shifter may be the nuetral indicator, supposed to have a plastic pointer on the shaft if thats what it is

*edit* the decoder must be wrong or wrong vin
atc200 wasnt made untill 81 not sure when a 200 had ele start, but it could have all been swapped since then, 81-82 had no suspension, but that could have been swapped too

Are you sure of the 10th digit? If it is a "C" instead of a "0" then you have a 1983 Honda ATC200e.
1982 200e ( Big Red ) = JH3TB051XC133783~

Hello

Universal standardized VIN breakdown says there is no number 0 for the 10th digit on motorcycles and atv's etc so yours should be a C for 1972 as Howdy suggests or a D for 1973. I think his "1973" might be a typo. If this is true then the vin decoder listed by gator72007 is in fact incorrect.

Do you have a registration or title you can read it off.

thanks for all your prompt replies I will recheck the vin from memory I was debating if that was a D or a O as they do look very similar.

Yes is a D in the chassis number so it is a 1983 honda atc200e?? I am guesing that the non suspension front end is off an earlier three wheeler as the headstock nut is still loose and the 'dash' is off a different model. Bit of a mongrel really.

Hello

You do in fact have a 1983 ATC 200E. Well now it looks like either the universal standardized VIN breakdown chart I posted or the VIN decoder Gator72007 posted is incorrect.

The universal decoder I posted says the 10th digit on these vehicles do not use the letter O or number 0.

The universal standardized decoder lists A as the 10th digit for all 1980 motorcycles and atv’s etc.

The Honda decoder posted by gator72007 does not accept the letter A as the 10th digit but does accept the number 0.

The Honda decoder says the original vin in question is a 1980 ATC 200E but they did not make an E model to my understanding and as far as the official Honda fiches show until 1982 but they did make an ATC200 from 1980 thru 1983 and an ATC 200E Big Red from 1982 thru 1983.

Go to cmsnl.com to view original Honda fiches to compare what you have and buy NOS OEM parts if needed.

Not too confusing.

Hope some of this info helps
