hey just picked up an 84 250r,the guy said he just
put a new piston, rings etc .10 over and a new clutch,
but it has a pretty loud noise kinda a knocking coming
from the engine.some of the noise goes away when you
pull the clutch but still noisey.are the aircooled ones just noisey?

cool this is my first aircooled atc,it also seems to have a
noisey engine aswell.is it normal to hear the in internals
even with the clutch pulled in?kinda like a knocking sound.i appreciate
your feedback as I don't have anything to compare it to.

two strokes have a unique sound if you are use to hearing thumpers. If you are really worried about it, take a video with the mic close to the cases and next the head and let us listen to it. I am sure it is nothing, then again...may need some crank bearings, new plates, etc.

k I rode it for an hour today, seems good.had this weird thing happen
though I took it up the rode to stretch its legs and throttle stuck so I
grabbed the clutch and killed the ignition but it still kept revving then I let the clutch
out and it stalled.restarted but just bogged till it quit.then pushed it home let it
sit for a minute and fired up rode it seemed fine.any ideas crank seals maybe, stuck
slide?

Check your cable and also check the slide in the carb....the slide may be gummed up cause the slide to stick.

Sounds to me like a deathrev from an air leak... If you killed the ignition and it still kept reving untill you dumped the clutch.

on cars with brakekleen while its running, probley try that.

is it possible that the reeds would cause this?its has new
boyeson reeds installed by the previous owner.maybe one cracked
or broke?

You also could have run out of fuel for whatever reason. Bad gas cap, clogged fuel screen or inlet, etc... That will make it run away as well.

did the cable and carb slide check out OK?

a fast way to do an air leak check externally is to start the bike and while its idling, spray carb cleaner or starting fluid around areas that you think could have a leak. For example, around your intake boot, gaskets, etc. If it revs at any point, you have an airleak.

Hello

Does your carb or brake cleaner say flammable on it? If it does not it is water based which is most common now. Water base does not burn.
