Hello Shadystyles

Hello all I just picked up a klt 200 for $175

Has weak compression.(It failed the thumb over the spark plug hole miserably) After dropping the engine and pulling the piston ,top end it looks good valves were looset. I'm guessing a hone job and some new rings for sure. I'm bringing to a local shop today to see what he says about a bore job. Where can I find oversize pistons and rings or just oversize rings for the stock piston? Anywhere besides eBay?

Looks mean nothing. If you can feel even the slightest irregularity [ridge] ¼” down from the top of the cylinder it must be rebored for proper ring seating.

You need to spray carb cleaner into intake port and look for it weeping around valve, repeat for intake, if it weeps it needs repair.

It will likely need a bore. All I know is ebay and xtremeusa.com, links below. Don’t buy a used one.

Hello all I just picked up a klt 200 for $175 it turns over when I cross the solenoid it has spark. Any tips on the the wiring it is a real mess from the previous owner there's more wire nuts than factory crimps.

The klt 160 wiring diagram in the link below may be the same, repair as necessary or buy good used harness or new harness.

hey thanks for the help, i took it to one of the local shops that does alot of race work. after looking at the rings, piston and cylinder he suggested I first try new factory rings and a hone job. the rings were really bad so were trying that route first i just wanna see if i gan get her to fire and actually ride it... lots of wiring to figure out yet, and a complete gasket kit for the engine while i wait for other parts... thanks again all!

Hello

Your welcome however a PROFESSIONAL shop would know definitively as to whether it needed a bore or not. There are specific measurements to go by to determine this. I guess you don't want to spend any more money than necessary which is understandable however if not repaired PROPERLY your rings will not seat properly in which case it will run less than optimum, use oil and smoke etc. Is this a risk you are willing to take? I suggest you get a second PROFESSIONAL opinion so you are better informed first.

Hope this info helps.
