I just got this 1981 250r and need some ideas to spice it up. Because its still all origanal, in decent shape. Would the axle off later year 250r fit on my 81? Swingarms? Badically i like the look of the 85 86 models. But want too keep its origanal look too an extent. Maybe new gas tank and seats? Idk.. Just wantin some ideas

Not many of these in all original condition left out there..

The aftermarket in the 80's made almost everything for these. Aftermarket wheels, tires, fork kits, fenders, headlights, bars, tanks, seats, fenders, exhausts, silencers, frames, shocks, swingarms, motor parts, axles, hubs, etc. it really comes down to how much you wanna spend and how patient you are

Here's my 2 82's they're done up about as much as can be, and they both REALLY move.

Only stock OEM parts left are triple clamps, tanks, fenders, and brake components.

Thanks alot. You have some real cool bikes there. I like the extended swingarm and widened axle.that what i think im going to start off with. Where could i get that? And would 82-86 250r swingarm and axle fit on my 81?

Man this makes me wish I had kept the 81 I picked up. If it were mine, I'd build my own extended swinger, pro link type suspension, 200x forks, etc... A good place to look into air cooled Rs is airfoolers.com. I'm sure some of their members are on here, but, there are some really cool one off Rs on there.

Some of the easier parts to find are, exhausts and swingers but they can be expensive but they do make a
big difference on the early 250r's
Here is a pic or my 82r which I restored using, dg head, bassani exhaust, rocky race manifold, 36 ml keihin carb, c+l +3 Swinger, works rear shock, Mitchell rims, Clark tank, hi flite seat, maier plastics, a few modern parts , trx hubs, asv leavers , tag bars, new number board
