Hi everyone,
I have a 84 YTM 200, I got it off craigslist, but the rope on the pull start broke after awhile, When I was taking it apart, the little medal piece fell off, and I put it back on, but i don't think its right, I found this little part laying on the ground, im sure it goes to it, If it does how do put that back on? Ive tried every way and cant get it to work. Any help is appreciated as I have no clue. Thanks
Does this part go to anything?

Umm i can't help but that doesn't look restored. I'd ask about a refund. If your running into problems already just get another one.

I have not seen a piece like that on any of my yamaha 200's. it looks like something home made to me, however I can see how it would perplex you because it does resemble the general shape of the return spring, but I will assure you it is not OEM!

Is there suppose to be a return spring inside the pull starter?

I have owned well over 50 Yamaha's and that spring is part of the pull starter. The reason you might not recognize it is because it's bent way out of shape and will need to be replaced. I am betting on it being part #5 in the attatched picture.
Hope this picture helps show how it goes together and what parts are what. ;)

Howdy^^ that's what I was thinking it was also but I just couldn't remember what it is called, it also could be number 4 on the parts diagram but it looks to thin. If it is number 5 I don't think it is a big deal missing it. Mine doesn't have one on it and it works fine. I lost mine when I first got my trike an I had it for over a year and it still works

I personally would make sure it's in there, but I have seen a couple machine without this spring in it. And yes they worked, but I don't think they worked as good without.

I got a spring for my pull starter, and I was noticing that i don't have the clip #4 in the diagram, is this a must? Cause right now, I have the pull starter on my bike, and when i pull it, it pulls freely and wont start, feels like its not catching on anyhing if you know what I mean.

That was a spring that goes under your under the "dog"that catches your flywheel.I'd try to find one if I were you because it will eventually tear up.Yamaha with plastic parts where they don't belong.

That clip is a requirement on these pullstarters. It's used to flip and retract the dog ( #2 ). The dog is what catches the cage and allows you to spin the motor.
