Does any one know if and what the differences between a 83 Honda atc200x and an 86 would be? I used to have a 1986 200x and am thinking of getting a 83 200x if they are pretty close. Differences in motor, suspension, frame?

If you search there are multiple threads about it, but to sum it up for you they are totally different machines and have few things in common other than that they are both 200x's.

Either bike is good.5 speed vs 6 speed.your not gonna notice a lot of difference in power because the both still 200's.to me a 83-85 with a liquid cooled 250r front fender look better than the 86-87 200x.parts are easier to find for 83-85.who cares if its got an extra gear?if speed is want you want then look for a 350x or 250r.

I have owned both trikes. I prefer the 86 over the 83-85. They look different. The 86 has better looking plastics, it has a different engine with a 6 speed transmission making it faster than the 83, because the 83 is 5 speed. I seem to have more problems with the 83-85 200x engines. The 86 engines seem more reliable. Or atleast from my experiences the 86 engine is more reliable. The 86 is just an overall better 3 wheeler. I would go with the 86.

The good,,,86 200x has a hi comp piston, different cam, 6 speed trans, better suspension, over all a more reliable motor... The bad,,, parts are harder to find, parts are more expensive, tank shrouds are really hard to find.. The good,,, 83-85 200x parts are out there by the ton, cheap to get parts for, all plastics are readily available. The bad,,, lower comp piston, 5 speed trans... Believe me,,,, that 1 gear makes a difference .... my 86 200x will out run my 83 250r in a straight out run, the r will leave it standing at the line and eat it in the 1/4 but the 200x will catch it in the long distance run...

Are the engines swappable?

you can put anything, in anything, if you try hard enough... direct swap???? I don't know. I would think they would have the same engine mount points but I don't know for sure

The engines are not swappable. The 86 is taller and wider with a bigger bottem end.
