I just bought a 200x and the guy that I bought it from told me that it was not firing i got it to firing white spark. It was hard to kick over would get stuck in this one spot and i would have to kick it really hard to get past that one spot put starting fluid in the spark plug hole and on the plug and nothing. Turend the moter to tdc took the covers off the valves to adjust them. The one in the front gap was right on the money now the one in the back was like 1/4 3/8 inch gap? I adjusted that one with the filler gage then more starting fluid in the spark plug hole nothing. Now it kicks over easy... to easy and no binding spot. When i hold my hand over the carb like to choke it by hand it spits gas out like crazy all over my hand? Also, has alot of fresh oil all over the outside of the jug. Cant tell where its coming from. It has permitex on the head gasket and the gasket for the cdi cover looked new when i took that off and the bolt you use to turn the motor to tdc was lose. The guy i got if from said the guy he got it from rebult the motor. The kick start gears dont slip lol any ideas input would be helpful thanks.

Sounds like you got a bent valve..timing chain may have jumped putting your timing off causing the piston to top out on the intake valve. That would explain your 1/3 inch gap on the intake valve..and the stuck spot as you were kicking. Once the valve bent it is running clear again and now it's easy to kick..

You're getting gas spitting out on your hand because the piston is forcing compression back out thru the carb because the valve isn't closing.

Compression test, check the cam timing to double check what I'm saying..then it sounds like you're tearing the top-end down.

Oh yeah, ease up on the starter fluid..a little goes a long way!

thanks man i pulled the cdi stuff of the O mark on the cam gear was at like 10 or 11 oclock not 12 like it should be and the timing chain seemed kinda lose i could pull it away from the cam gear on one side really easy i had the motor at tdc and could move the cam back and forth so it was on the compression stroke. just to do it i set the timing right at 12 oclock and readjusted the valve. still the same thing spitting gas out the carb and no compression when kicking it over. so i take it that it jumped time and trashed the valve and piston?

I would venture to say that's a possibility. Your valves clearly aren't opening and closing properly or a ring could be busted. Either way, I would take the time to break down the top end and inspect and don't try to kick it anymore as it could cause more harm than good.

ya i have a wore out 200x that smokes and looks like crap i ride now. so im going to collect some cool parts and rebuild this motor while i ride the one that runs. is there some one on this site that could rebuild the motor real good for me at a good price or at least the bottom end when i rebuild it i want to rebuild the whole motor top and bottom so it will last another 30 years i would like to keep the bottom end stock i think maybe upgrade 3rd and forth gear. i would like to use a 10.25.1 piston xr carb and intake i hear the xr cam makes you lose bottom end and i ride around slow with my son alot but i would like it to really get up and go when i want it to i need to find the right cam to use and build the head good to i would like to pull third gear wheelies without setting way back on the seat lol

you guys were exactly right the valves were bent well one of them I didn't get a pic of that. the piston has damage on the top don't know if its still good? the cam chain guide is scared up too is that what made it jump time. the cyl wall looks good I don't have mics. lots of aluminum shavings in the fly wheele. I don't know whats up with that?
