Pretty sure yes, Ebay's charge is based on a percentage of your asking price or price it sells for....

Yes he is trying to circumvent listing and final value fees... However, he should know that ....

A. This is an offense that ebay doesnt take kindly to
B. If someone hits buy it now at $500 he is under contract to sell at that price regardless of description!!!

yeah, if you read the description, he says he really wanted 1250
but may have (says it) sold for 500.

I never saw the orig listing.
Prob weeks of complaints and penalties to straighten it out, of at all.

Feedback score of "0" too I just noticed....

He's going to be in for an unpleasant surprise when he finds out he is obligated to send it down the road for the $500!

Yep and if he refuses to sell it then its most likely going to be a banning offense when the buyer reports they seller was asking a different price in person.
