Hello all, I just picked up an 84 250r, looks like the front shocks are really bent...what are my options? Can I install later model shocks, or do I need to find some from this same year? Any other parts interchangeability between the different years of these bikes? All info appreciated, as I am new to the 250r scene.
Thanks,

Joe F.

I just went through this myself. You need a fork with a 35mm tube. Any 1st or 2nd gen 250r forks will work (81-84). The 3rd gen 250r forks are bigger diameter. If you wanted to go to the 3rd gen forks, you have to swap out the entire front end (wheel, spacer, axle, forks, brakes, triple trees, etc). The fork tubes out of a 350x are compatible, but just the tubes, not the lower end.

ETA: not sure how much you are looking to spend, but i just found out about this company 2 days ago http://www.frankmain.qpg.com/ im told they are a bit pricey, ($200+ per set) but worth it to have brand new tubes. i havent called to get a quote myself.

actually, 81/82 forks will not work, unless you make an aluminum sleeve to take up the space. 1st gen forks are smaller diameter and shorter. your best best would be to find some 83/84R forks and bolt em up. not that tough to find. any other fork tubes will require machining of your existing triples, a complete front end swap, or sleeves to match the tubes to the triples
