I'm not a wealth of information on the T4's, but I know decent plastics will set you back. Also, motor work is not cheap for those and powervalves are hard to find.

I don't have any T4 experience either but I do have 1st gen T3 experience.

They could easily be a money pit since I think they only made them 2 years. It helps to know going in what's rare and expensive and hard to find on them. That's the biggest difference between Kawasakis (and Yamahas) vs Hondas - parts availability and cost.

CDI boxes on T3s for example. If it's missing or bad, that makes a good deal bad...

Plastics. Any unique parts (I just don't know what they are for T4).

Do T4s have the flywheel issues of the T3s?

Otherwise, it's normal wear and tear items - tires ($200), chain ($60), sprockets ($60), bearings ($100), brakes ($100s), seat cover ($50) etc.

If it doesn't run, pull the flywheel if you can. Also, pull the exhaust and take a look at the piston and cylinder. This would have saved me a few $$ and headaches if I'd done it. If the flywheel and ignition coils are bad, that's another $250. Piston or cylinder scored or seized? hundreds.

Check the kicker and shift shafts for signs of butchery/welding. Same for axle hub nuts.

That kind of stuff.

I agree with above. Two year run... 87,88. When they run they will beat a Honda trx stock for stock. If you have patients and want a project they will turn heads and go up in value in my eyes over time. If that's gonna be your main and only ride I say don't do it.
