I can't find a name on it but it's a 5 drawer
bottom roll away.
The key works great, feels and sounds normal and clunks real nice and pretty sure I can hear
the vertical rod clunking too, if that's what's in there.

The 3rd drawer down actually will open, unlock, and relock but the others
will not. They are simply locked.

I tried kicking the drawers in tighter, wiggling, tipping the box
and then came to the source of all good info.

Thanks

Try this:

Remove the one drawer that does open (you know how to do that, right?)

Then with that drawer removed you should be able to see the locking bar at the back of the box. Stick your arm in there and try to pull it up a little. This should allow you to pull the formerly locked drawers forward. If that works you’ll have to remove all the drawers and see if the bar can be adjusted to lift higher, of if it’s plain worn out (not lifting high enough to release the drawers. There is usually a bent rod that passes movement from the lock mechanism to the locking bar at the back, this will be where you will have to make your adjustments.

Great! Thanks.

We just had over 1,000 people here for 5 days
so pretty sure my logical mind quit working
and I think I have a severe case of tunnel vision.

Just got an 87 sx and I'd like to throw a few tools at it.
well, the headstock sticker says 87 but 007
says it has different forks, an 'r' headlight?
aluminum rims with wheel spacers and all I had time to do was scare the bejeezus outta myself on a 100 yard testride and parked it.
Runs great, choke slider won't move so thinking I may just send it to
flyingW for a fix or trade.
sx carbs just cause me pain to get off and back on.

Yupp, I may need a few tools so I really appreciate
your suggestions.
Just glad I can sleep for a week and really don't need
to do much for a few days.

You got it !! It is a 87 , great grab ! And El has your box fixed. ALL is good ! IF you wanna dick with the choke. 90% of the time you will end up having to just pull the choke cable up out{ thereby spreading the choke plunger open}. So, for now, loosen the choke cable, spray a good penetrant in there, and see if you can get it working side to side after a overnight soak. If not then you will pull the cable out. Take care to save the spring. Then, take a flat blade screwdriver and spin the plunger, and work it and work it. Then try to extract with a good pair of needle nose..

Thanks fellas,
A couple guys showed up looking for work and the one kid had the toolbox
opened in under 2 minutes.
One of the vertical sliders had jumped ship and it works now.
Thank goodness one of the drawers was open so we could get in there.

I'm thinking some 3/8" chain wrapped around the box with a padlock may
be my new redneck fix.

I've had a few of those sx / es carbs apart and that 'choke' enrichment
piston can get absurdly stuck as there really isn't much to grab on to
without destroying it.
One came apart by boiling it in vinegar.

Since everything else looks nice, I hope it's just the cable and an ez fix.
I kick it 2x with the switch off, then switch on and it starts instantly.

Toolbox update.

Turns out that a wiring diagram, neatly folded
had fallen behind one of the drawers and blocked the
vertical sliders.
