Hello I bought at atc 110 1985 and the guy said it just needed a carb clean. So i did that and still wouldn't start so i checked the spark and it was weak .changed coil ,cleaned and set pulse gen ,cleaned and checked exciter all wires seem fine .but the wires were a mess so I tried to tidy them the best I could but still weak spark could it be its not ground veryu well?.
I towed it with my quad and the light came on and nearly started . Could i put the green coil cable straight onto the frame ? Any ideas would be welcomed as I'm tearing my hair out thanks

Make sure to clean all contacts . I had to scrape all the connectors with a razor blade by the headlight and coil. Also is the plug wet after u try to start it. A new plug. The plug wire. All things to check. Hows the compression

I Did all them things and compression seems fine . Does the earth wire that bolts on the the frame have to be thicker than the rest of the wires as I've more aless had to rewire the trike and used a thin wire as ground to the frame. the spark is still small but is a bluey red. cheers

if u question trailprotrailpro ground then yes change out the wire. also after u try to start it for a while ,is the spark plug wet. if it aint then its a fuel issue.

a thicker wire might help too

I tried the thicker cable can it be too thick? as that didn't do anything . It seems to want to start the best when choke on full and full throttle but still doesn't fire . Also when you take the bottom of the carb off and in the middle there's two big brass screws with holes in do they need to be a certain setting or just screwed in? .cheers

ok try this . take the air filter tube off the carb. put trailprotrailpro hand over the carb and make a seal with trailprotrailpro palm . there should be suction. pull it a couple time . i would bout bet she runs better than it ever has but then dies after 30 sec. trailprotrailpro carb is plugged. again is the spark plug wet after u crank on it for a while or is it dry.

I tried that with no luck . Could it be the pulse gen I set the gap but I dont know where the little black box is meant to be . I think someone has mess with it as 1 of the screws were threaded doesnt the little black box control the spark timing and adjust it to when you want it to spark ? Thankyou so Much for your help so far

Ah it could be the cdi box over the pulsar on the magneto. Have you checked to se if trailprotrailpro plug is wet with gas after you have cranked on it

Check the CDI box.
And you know how many times i've heard "only needs the carb cleaned" and it turns out something else?
To many to count on my hands and feet.

I put my hand over the carb and it had suction but didn't start . I removed the screw cap on the fly wheel and when it was at T the rotor lined up with the black box under the cdi cover . If it is the cdi can I get a generic replacement or does. it have to come from a 85 atc I've ordered a Haynes manual today. I could kill the man who sold me this trike

u should hug the man that sold it to u . i love those lil wheelers. IS YOUR SPARK PLUG WET WITH GAS AFTER U TRY AND START IT FOR A WHILE? i have seen cdi boxes go bad and u can get them on ebay all day long. but if spark plug is dry after ten minutes of trying to start it , it is the carb. have u changed the spark plug.

Had a better day today cleaned everything wire etc , and have a blue spark that jumps to the Frame , so I cleaned and set the carb and.put it all back together pulled it then a massive bang like a gun and the spark plug and coil shot off ,the person who I bought it off has threaded the spark plug hole so I'll have to get a heli coil. I put i back in did the same thing does this mea n I'm getting combustion in the chamber as it didn't sound just compression , ??? Cheers

Sounds like its time to pull apart the carb, strip it, clean it, rebuild it.

I checked the carb and everything seemed fine it only need a tiny spray of wd40 in the carb to get it running . It idled and revs great . I currently don't have a air filter on but should be here tomorrow . Could this causing it Maybe .?? Or is it just the nature of the beast ? Cheers
