Hows it going, I just picked up an 85 Tecate from a parts shop down the road :D The price was right, I traded an atc 200 that was whooped and didn't run, so heres the deal. The Tecate needs a motor which is easy enough but as im putting the roller together im realizing little things here and there are broken or missing, does anyone know where to get a new chain slider? Kawasaki has discontinued those and also the chain adjuster but it looks awful similar to a Honda atc 200 adjuster, has anyone ever tried one of those? Also on a sidenote, what shocks easily fit? people say 300ex but they don't have a resivoir and I want decent suspension :wondering, thanks all!

board member Jeswinehart reproduces the chain sliders. He does excellent work.

Look for the Tecate parts interchange thread. I bet that adjuster was used on 20 Kawasaki models.

I have 3 85's and am just about done with the frame up refresh on the 2nd one so these things are fresh in my mind.

Some other things I've found:

Fork tubes seem to rust worse than the Hondas. Could just be my trike selection, but I have something like 12-14 fork tubes and I hope I can get 6 useable tubes for my 3 trikes.

Get an intake boot from Jeswinehart, too.

The gas tank strap is the same one used on a bunch of 70s street bikes and can be found on Ebay for $5-8.

The stock air fliter cage is hard to find, as are CDI boxes and headlight switches.

The tail light and bracket are the same on a bunch of Kawasaki trikes klf/klt 110, 160, 185, some Prairie and Mojave models.

You guys are awesome! Ill need an intake boot and chain slider if you could when you get back john. I just ran down to the parts shop it came from, took a 70's streetbike chain adjuster, cut it and it works perfectly:Bounce I have the unitrak cantilever covers surprisingly and I decided im going to run a yfz450 rear shock, they need minimal fabbing and can be had for a cool 50 bucks on ebay:D One other thing, tecate's usually have that funky offset headlight bracket, mine came with a bucket of parts and in it was a chrome headlight bracket that has 6 mounts, 2 go to the forks and clamp around them, 2 to the upper triple clamp bolts, and 2 to the radiator guard bolts, it requires you to trim a little of the wire mesh guard and I was wondering if it was aftermarket or something, never seen one...:wondering

As I recall, forum member Xpress used the same mount for an LED setup.

Just one question that light bracket that I have was never mounted on this one, they had 2 tecates at one point and this came with it, I know you don't use the factory metal guard with it, but how do you have the bottom of the wire mesh guard supported?

Very cool :D I threw mine on last night the only thing I don't have is those bottom mounts for the radiator screen, looks like they were aftermarket with the light bracket, Ill have to make up a set. I don't have an original tecate light, but I had a 35w spot light that fits perfectly and ill change it up if need be, but for now :beer
