1982 250r when in 4th and 5th gear runs for a sec then cuts off and dies..........:/

Hello I am new to this forum but I have had many 3 wheelers but I have a 1982 250r when in 4th or 5th gear it will run for just a sec then die? seems to run good in all other gears.....A guy that works on bikes for a living told me to clean out the gas tank lid I blew air through it and sprayed b-12 through it and it ran much better but still dies.......I have blew air through the petcock and gas tank and gas line and completely cleaned out the carb....I run it 50 to 1

I am going through plugs like I go through condoms.... and there black as coll after an hour of riding.... I use ngk r copper plugs

hah..

youre running too rich. drop the jet size and check your reeds. if theyre not sealing properly, your fuel and air arent mixing properly

The reason for cutting off is fouling plugs. Like manbearpig said, drop jet sizes. Unless your mixing to much oil?

says hes mixing 50:1. to each their own i suppose, but thats a lean mixture

Yes I'm mixing 50 to 1 that is what the guy I bought it from mixed....I tried to mix it 32 to 1 when I bought it because that is what it's sposta run but it ran like trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro guess I should try 40 to 1 for a while then work my way up to 32 to 1....but I just put a brand new ngk r copper plug in it and it still dies.. I pulled the gas line from the pet cock and there is plenty of fuel running out... I ran it with the gas cap off and it still dies.... I have not checked the reeds out yet but will when I get a chance.

Why does everyone think 50:1 is to lean? That's all I've ever mixed my 2 strokes at and never had problems. My golf cart oil injection is 182:1 and it runs just fine with exhaust mods, shaved head and governor cranked up.

Your fuel mix is not the problem. It's strange that it only happens in the highest gears. Possible stator or timing getting thrown off? Bad ground wire somewhere maybe.

Il check my wires but it almost has to be the reads because I have been through every other possible thing on the bike and the gas is there and the spark is there so iv ruled out a lot and making head way thanks everyone for there help. I will pull the reeds tomorrow and get back with yall

Did you try a different coil.The secondary one under the gas tank.I had a similar problem on my 85 250r and it was the coil.It started and idled great .But anything over half throttle and it ran like crap.

you'll need to pull the cage and check out where they come to a point. if all of the "petals" are not pressed up against the pyramid cage, you need to flip or replace them

I don't wanna trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro anything up and having trouble getting the reed cage out.... This is my first look at 2 stroke reeds so il post a picture when I get the cage out but thanks for the help.
