78 ATC 70 pull start issue.

The pull start on my sons 70 has some issues. I pulled off the pull start and found a Pawl or key broken. I replaced that but it had nothing to do with it. it feels like something is broken somewhere. You can still pull the pullstart its free, but when i put the pullstart back on I noticed it feels tight. You can pull it but something is dragging in there. Im not sure where to start looking yet. Any ideas would be a great help. Thank you

I had to take apart the pull start on my 1980 ATC185 several times to replace the rope, and it was pretty straightforward. But nothing in there was ever broken other than the rope.

If one of the pawls was broken, take a look at the part of the engine where the pawls engage when you pull the rope. The problem may be with that. Or maybe the recoil starter wasn't lined up just right when you put it back on the engine and that's why it's binding now. ???
