In particular quarters. Look at the date on the quarter. If it is 1965 or earlier it is worth $7 dollars in silver. Smelter Skelter.

I thought it was illegal to "scrap" US coin currency.
Same goes for pennies are worth more in scrap before a certain date because of the brass in it.

Copper, not brass. The pretty pennies are 1981 and older.

Ya got me there. Saw it on Pawnstars. :p

Edit:
Decided to look it up.

1. Calculate 95% copper value :

(3.2841 × .00220462262 × 3.11 × .95) = $0.0213907

2. Calculate 5% zinc value :

(0.8673 × .00220462262 × 3.11 × .05) = $0.0002971

3. Add the two together :

$0.0213907 + $0.0002971 = $0.0216878

$0.0216878 is the melt value for the 1909-1982 copper cent on August 29, 2013.

There are 2 of my favorite pennies in there some where > http://cointrackers.com/coins/13495/1909-s-vdb-wheat-penny/
Both come out of a hole on the "wet" side of a northern Michigan light house. Heck,,,, ALL my pennys (and a whole bunch of other stuff) are from the "wet" side.

under water metal detecting has been very kind to me over the years

I have a bit of a coin collection and I know silver has gone up. but $7.00 for a silver quarter with no rarety? Who's paying that?

Using this link I come up with about $4.00 (still very high)
http://coinapps.com/silver/gram/calculator/

As far as melting American coins see this link. Silver yes, copper and nickel no.

However no Canadian money should be altered or defaced, something about the queen's face being on it.

Nice photos jeswinehart!

Yeah like we are being baited into this war and 0b0mma is taking the cheese. If we have another illegal war this for sure will destroy whats left of our already debased devalued dollar.
"They are dumping the dollar quicker than Bercracky can print it". I just cant believe how powerless our so called leaders are. Think about it. What will happen when a loaf of bread at the supermarket is 5 dollars. Gasoline 10 per gallon. If we go to war we loose without the so called enemy they want us to hate fires a single shot. If your dollar cant buy things then people are gonna get hungry for food. And when you get really hungry for food it changes the way you think. You go into full hunt mode. Damn we are in a very very dangerous predicament.

I don't find anything but nails in my yard LOL I'll grab a picture of some of my other finds I've scored from down south here in a little while. My favorite piece is my knife-cut seated liberty. Man is that a beautiful coin..
