How did you get it in there? Must weigh a ton.

^ It wasn't bad. The seller had a lift table so the pan /legs/bed separate all come off and the whole motor has 2 simple 5/16th pins that tear off all the drive pieces...... Its around 600lbs. My other lathe is 1000 pounds. A heavy 10 has to be some decent pounds heavier.

At my shop, we backed up and slid it onto my tool cart, attached the the legs and the pan then the lathe.

^ Thanks bud! There 5 drill chucks total, one being a micr drill chuck for tiny drill bits. 3/3 and 1/4 jaw chucks. One needs a backing plate and I will have to locate a "quick change gear box" which is an option for this.

I'll call Steve Logan today and then I'll ask you guys to keep your eyes open for one.........

We'll make room for you Pat!

Looks to be in awesome shape Steve! Plenty of collets for round work. Looks like a couple of extra tool holders on the bed along with a magnetic base. Did ya get any cutting tools with it? HSS or carbide tipped? I'm sure you had a lot already. Man I'm soooo jealous:drool:. Never thought I would miss machine shop work when I left but you can do anything with the right lathe and a Bridgeport. Been many times I've said to myself if I only had a ..... I could make that. Hope it all works well for ya and look forward to see what kind of product you throw off of there!

So you added new pics while I was typing (2nd time thats happend to me today) I spy a couple of Starrett indicators with plenty of attachments to put it on that magnetic base. More more more pics please!:Bounce

Oooh Man!! - He works in a stainless steel shop. All is ss and tig welded.

He gave me probably 50 or better solid carbide bits, some must have took an hour to grind and the rest are new and not ground...... :D :D

Running lathes and milling machines is something I know nothing about.Wish I did though. That lathe looks next to new for being a 1945.

I wish I had a lathe this size. My little 7x10 hobby lathe is really nothing more than a toy and all it does it make you wish you had a real lathe. I've been thinking of selling it and using that money towards a bigger South Bend.

Congrats on the purchase it looks very nice.

Thanks bud! It's fine to start with a small lathe and learn what it's limitations are. Then upgrade as needed until the final machine does all you want!

I bought a table top mill with the head on a gear rack and it swiveled. EVERY MO FO part I made I would dial in and then, whoops, I have to lower the head because the table does not have a Z or up and down axis. Touch the bolts and now your indicating is gone, I HATED that thing.

Paid 600$, like new and sold for 750$, purchaser did not do his homework so I wasn't the greedy one. He could have said, these are 700$ new!!; Then I got the Bridgeport with a Kurt vice from my old job for coffee and 100$.

I'm just about there, just an AC TIG would be next to weld aluminum and stainless. I'll get it! :D

Always seems like a time thing.........

Only took a year for the right lathe. Still want a heavy ten in good shape.

I buy lathes, keep the tooling and upgrade, works out great!!

So glad this owner took such nice care of this lathe...............

Yeah, that first one is just a tad large  That Sears lathe turned into an Atlas brand I believe. Some copying the Logan in some areas. Thats what a 1945 normally looks like......

I certainly will my shiny buddy. The X/SX use 1 ring, other models too. The 250R I make 2 for the box. 1 for the air filter slip off issue and one where the air intake is clamped on the box.

I gotta sell mine and get turning chips. I have the time, just need the room right now....

Just my .02 here. I'm by means no expert or even know half of anything about machine work, but I would personally stay away from any of the older Craftsman lathes. I had an old model 109 and it used some of the most basturd sized threads and parts were super hard to find, and when you did find them, you would have almost as much wrapped up in a couple of parts as you paid for the whole lathe. Mine needed a new spindle shaft and chuck. I would have had over $600 wrapped up in it with buying those two parts and still needed tooling. I sold it and bought my little chinese 7x10 and still came out on top with a much better toy lathe.

Just doing a little research most machinist advised staying away from any of the old Dunlap/Craftsman/Atlas lathes.

And a woman would be nice but I need to take care of Steve for awhile for once.

I have more money single than otherwise. You figure it out :D

FINALLY! sold the other lathe. He's picking it up Thursday.

Then I can clean the shop and move in the new lathe and start with some airbox rings and put them in the store for a 200X or the pair for a 250R.

The headlight guards are very time consuming so that will happen when I run out of the aluminum tubing for the collars; When I make them, I am not powder coating them. If I can make enough money on them using a 5000.00$ machine shop, I will only make them raw. Powder coating them requires me to drag out the oven, sandblast them (while the nozzle gets stuck) and clear out all my trikes to complete it. Unless people want to pay for it, they just have to understand the time I put into these guards has to cost effective.
