82 250r kick starter issue

When my engine is running I can not stow my kick start lever all the way in place. If I try I hear some grinding and it wants to in-gage the lever. I have the engine off doing the restore so now is a good time to fix. Any info will help.

I had that problem on my 200x. the center punch marks on the shaft and kicker didn't line up. and then the spring inside broke

likely a worn or broken kick start return spring. split those cases!
