What's the difference between a atc 250sx and a atc 200x? And what one is faster?

X...is faster!!! has a clutch NO reverse and is chain drive.....SX is semi automatic with reverse and is shaft drive,, SX is a bit more utility trike,,, X is more sporty trike!!

250sx is kinda a hybrid, half sport half utility, because the 250es is full utility. i dont know of any head to head speed test, but like sp8 said the clutch gives an advantage if you can drive it right. I'm not sure how the reverse and shaft drive affect which is faster :wondering:

If your in reverse your not going forward therefor making you lose the race.

A 200X is much quicker than a 250SX, they may have similar top speeds though.

I have both. the 200x is definitely more fun to ride, much sportier and handles much better. and with the clutch you can keep the rear tires spinning easier for cornering. the sx is heavier and with all three tires being balloons it is a little awkward to ride.

OEM tires are crap..and if your SX has balloons you aren't giving the two trikes a fair comparison!!

But with the right tire setup like this for example(pic below)

..the SX will OWN the X!! Maybe not on the track, but in the trail riding it's the winner by far!

This isn't just a one trike own opinion..I've had MANY of each of these trike over the years, played with them and their setups and found the best qualities of the machine!!

The SX has always been under-rated..the versatility of this trike knows no bounds!!

I agree that the SX is a way better bike than the X.

Had and SX, currently have an X. If you want to Gripit'n'Ripit (see what I did there) then go for the X. However, I've always enjoyed the SX. Definitely more versatile and just more fun IMHO.

I got 3rd place at tf this year in the mid size suspended mx... on my :naughty: 86 250sx-the only thing not stock on my bike are the tires..... spanked a couple 200x's that day :Bounce .... after the race she crossed the river... I'd like to see a 200x try that...:lol::lol:

With a 2nd gear start (technically 1st gear start since Honda considers 1st is really "LOW") she'll smoke any stock & maybe even lightly modded 200x...

The X is going to be much lighter, have better suspension and much more fun to throw around.

I have owned both. For just putting around the SX is great, but if you wanna have more fun and go faster or jump at all I would go with X myself. There are a lot more times I find myself wishing I had the 200x then the the 250sx

Interesting, I'd like to hear more opinions.... I'm debating which to get myself. I really want a 350x, but they all go for top dollar.

I've found 200x's and 250sx's that I can afford for now, and I can get a 350 down the road (can never have too many right?).

I'm a pretty big guy (6 foot 250ish) so I'm leaning toward the sx, especially since I think I'll get a 350 down the road.

I'm a big guy at 235lbs I can 'throw around' my SX quite easily..

I found the 200x a bit too light, felt it didn't really respond to my size we'll.

So I bought a 350x for those, 'I want to go fast' days!!

I agree that the SX is underrated. I love mine. Yes, it is heavier then the X, but it still has some get up and go. I drag raced an X a few years back and I beat the guy every time. I'm not bashing the X, but I personally like the SX.

In addition the the differences that have already been mentioned, the SX is electric/kick start and the X is kick start.

I have a x which I like, but I would really like to have reverse

i love my both my x's rode a couple sx before i bought my x. i'm know the rear set up on the sx i had a fourtrax 300 and the drive train was simlar and most parts between the two swap. i chose the x for quite a few reasons. one i'm 5'6" and its easier for me to slide around on my x which is what i love doing and the reason i have 3 instead of 4. two i'm not a fan of shaft drives. dead nuts reliable but pain to service they rob power too. the x only weighs little over 300lbs and its never been a problem for me to lift it up and spin the bike around when i needed 'reverse'. the x to me is a more fun bike. reminds me of a dirt bike where the sx felt like the trx300fw minus one wheel. maybe someday when i'm old and fat i'll switch for the reverse and electric start. but for now i'll take the lighter more tossable bike

What is this set up on the front? I'd like this for my own. Cost?

The sx has reverse. It can pull better.

The 200x is better in every other category, by far.

I prefer the 200X because of it's more sporty design. It was intended to be a sporty trail rider whereas the SX was designed for moderate trail use and a little farm work on the side. It was basically one of the first sport-utility ATV's. I believe stock for stock the 200X has the advantage over the SX as far as overall performance goes, with a better suspension setup and what I would think to be a tad more power (though I can't say, never been on an SX).

Slash, you can't really offer an informed opinion as to which is better if you've never ridden an SX.

You really need to ride one. You have no idea what you're missing!!

Someday I would like to for sure (I actually kinda want to build a racer out of one) but for me the 200X seems more of the right direction for what I do. I feel like it would be more sporty all aroun over the Sx. No doubt in my mind the SX is a great bike though

It's pretty obvious that the 200X is more sporty than the 250SX. Lighter, more nimble, manual clutch for more precise control, chain driven, etc.

Now the 250SX is no slouch. Yes, it's heavier, wider front tire up front, shaft-drive, etc. Having ridden both, the 250SX offers more in terms of torque, utility - w/ reverse, a nice hitch, etc. The 250SX is still a nice trail machine though.

In my opinion, it all comes down to preference.

I have put many miles on both the SX and the X. If I were going to get one I would go with the SX. Last year I took an SX to Gorman OHV park and hit the trails. It kicked butt on anything I threw at it.

Spec Wt. of a 250SX in 85 is 357 lbs. and a 200X in 85 is 282 lbs. For a larger structured person the SX may be the better choice for weight and size comparison.

What's the difference between a atc 250sx and a atc 200x? And what one is faster?Hello 250rkyle;

Well I saw no references to EXACTLY what years anyone is comparing so here's a little more info.

86 and 87 200SX have a different cam than earlier years.

200X . - metal foot pegs

250SX - rubber foot pegs

200X . - no engine balancer

250SX – engine balancer

All
83-85 200X - 5 speed.

86/87 200X - 6 speed.

All 250 SX . - 5 speeed.

On a 200X the final drive ratio can be changed. It cannot on a 250SX.

85 200X - 282 lbs

86 200X - 278 lbs

85 200X – B 65 X S 57.8 = 192 cc.

86 200X – B 65 X S 60.0 = 199 cc.

250SX lower rpm range, which means more bottom end power.

86-87 ATC 200X . . - 62mph
83-85 ATC 200X . . - 58mph
85 . . .ATC 250 SX – 57 mph

If you buy a 200X, I suggest you buy an 86 or 87 if you can.

I prefer the 83-85 200x .Iv riden a couple sx years ago for what they they are cool. The first gen 200x has alot more aftermarket parts than the sx.I have a 83 200x with a 185s motor and a 84 200x plus some 250rs .
