Hey everybody, just got my first trike today, but I have worked on and been around a lot in the past. Picked up what I believe is an 83 honda 200E. I know, there is supposed to be a plate sticker thing on the frame by the triple tree, but there is not. There is however a VIN number stamped and i will get that tomorrow.
The stats-
chain drive
hi/lo range-no reverse
electric start
soft front
air box goes into frame, which is why i think its an 83.
The bad news is, a previous owner snapped the frame and welded it back together rather shitily. In doing so, they sacrificed the "in frame" air intake. They cut the half pipe guard thing off and welded everything pretty solid, and then drilled four 1/4" holes as the new intake. All this was hidden under the tank when I went to test it and I am not to fond of it. I would like to get a good frame but I am unsure what models share the same frames. I am pretty sure a regular 200 or 200s are different as they do not have the battery compartment.
Could anyone help me out? Any advice on which models/years frames are the same would be awesome. Thanks guys.

I would find a 1982 or 1983 200E frame. I think you should be able to come across one easy. I am not too sure about a 200m frame. Someone else will be able to tell us.

i don't have an answer to that either because I'm a trike noob, but I do have an 83 200e project that i can take pictures of if that helps (not to sell, but as reference pics if you need any). It's in pretty rough shape though, and the air cleaner box has been messed with on it too, along with the wiring harness. I had planned on fixing it up, but we'll see. It may serve me better as a parts bike. Not gonna start on that one until I finish the 125's I'm currently working on.

You have either an 82 or 83. The 84 Big Red (200ES) went to a shaft drive, which changes the frame. And doing a search on the parts websites shows a very close part number between 82 and 83, but not identical. They may be close enough, but definitely the 84 is a unique animal from yours.
By the way, the airbox going into the frame is a very common design feature of most of the 3 wheelers I've seen (honda's). My Big Red, 350X, 250SX, and even my TRX125 4 wheeler all used that system.

Yeah I was thinking it was a 200e was the only one that will work. Guess I'm going to have to keep looking, or take a 200 stem and weld on and let's say 200x fork for a little more squish.

I have a couple frames available if shipping wasn't so costly.

VIN decoded verifies that it is an 83. Now my question is, does the 82 have the in frame air intake? I ask because this will effect my searching for a frame.
And Howdy, does the frames you have come with forks? Mine are tweaked pretty bad, but I want to put 200X forks on if i can figure it out.

Heres some pictures. They welded the factory intake holes up by the stem and managed to drill through this gillape of a weld.

so heres a few pictures of what the previous owner did. I think I am going to get a 200x frame and forks this weekend that i will cut and weld the stem to this frame if I can. And don't worry, the 200x frame is already a mess, he had a engine cradle out of some kawi quad engine so I don't feel bad for cutting it up. 35$ for the frame, forks and triples.
