I have a 1985 Honda 250 sx that starts but will only run with the choke on. When you are driving with the choke off and try to accelerate it will stall. Anyone have any suggestions

Its got junk in it. Either you can rebuild it yourself or you can send it to me. I've been rebuilding these carbs for a while and have them wired. I have one inbound from Canada right now for rebuild. This is what they look like when I get done with them and I test them too before returning them. I am working on a tutorial on rebuilding them if you want to do it yourself. I'm not finished with it yet but I will get back on it later tonight.

I did put some fuel stabilizer in with the gas & it did seem to help some. I was hoping this would be the quick fix. Yes it looks like I will need to clean the carburetor.

Jim has done both my SX carbs for me, and his rebuilds rock. Millwright, if you dont feel like rebuilding the carb yourself, then Jim is the man to do it.

Jim is the man...doing it yourself is a waste of time, seriously.

I had a very similar problem with my 250sx. With Jims tutorial, and buying a part for the carb that was missing, my sx is up and running like new.

I just sent my carb in to get rebuilt by Jim, not only is he more thorough than a surgeon, but he's not ripping you off either. Good man, great service.

I wanted to try and tackle the carb clean up on my new to me 1985 250ES , but I think after all I might send it to Jim The previous owner has a aftermarket float in it and the float might not be shutting off the fuel supply. He also removed the vent lines, (which it should still run?). Before I removed the carb it only ran with the choke on and it ran very badly at that. Anyone have any pics of the float and how it actuates the float needle? Mine would also start leaking fuel if it was just sitting or idling, leading me to believe the float adjustment is way off. looks like there is some rust sediment to going on here as well, i might get one of those Ebay tanks also. Don't worry Johnny, I have extra floats. I'll get it squared away.

I got my carb back from Jim and all I can say was, my three wheeler started the instant I hit the starter button and has not needed any fiddling with it. It looks better than new and I could have never done this nice of the job with the carburetor kudos to Jim aka. flyingw
