I have a 84 225DX with a bad muffler. It is full of holes and the baffle is bad. The head pipe is good. Is there any decent replacement mufflers out there that you recommend other than the used ones on ebay? Any universal ones out there that will work? I just need something that will not break the bank. Thanks.

That is a tough one! Never seen an aftermarket listed specifically for the 225DX

Kimpex lists this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATV-Muffler-Yamaha-YFM-225-1986-to-1988-YFM-250-1989-to-1991-Kimpex-Exhaust-/141079173173?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20d8f95835&vxp=mtr

Check around to see if anyone has ever installed it and how it went!! Not a direct listing but might be close enough to work with it..

Or

Try your local farm/auto store for a cheap slip-on muffler and use some creativity to get it to fit..

I found a complete Cobra exhaust on EBay for $100. New in the box and marked YTM trimoto 225. Date code on box was 1996. I installed it a few months ago and it fit perfect. Name on box is Cobra Quiet exhaust with spark arrestor. The muffler tip does extend past the rear rubber mud flap. I will post some pics soon. This setup is way quieter than any other Cobra exhaust I have seen. Has anyone else run into this setup before or remember seeing one? Just seems like it is kind of rare.:p

I have a DG exhaust on mine. It's big and loud. Not my favorite but the bike gallops so I can't complain. I believe it's a one piece.

Do you have two YTM 225's?

I was looking around for any muffler that would work before I found the Cobra setup. Its a shame that it is discontinued now. I had a 84 Trx 200 that I installed a regular Cobra setup on and it was so loud it would make your ears ring. I figure that the DG exhaust is just as loud. The Cobra Quiet setup is slightly louder than the stock exhaust.
