My names Dave and me and my wife came accross a looks to be 83 yamaha ytm 200e.
I came accross this forum on google, figured the best thing to do is find a group of people, its always been the quickest and simplest way to get reliable information.

Now onto the trike.
like i said i think its an 83, ive been told it does run but it has the clutch cover off at the moment as previous owner says it needs a clutch.
needs a battery, both levers are broken off and probably a starter solenoid.

Ive never worked on a trike before but do believe i am fairly handy.
now all i need to do is track down some parts and figure out exactly what i need.

Thanks

Dave

Welcome to the forums. Most likely eBay is going to be where youll get most of your parts but search around and maybe a member might have something for sale. I would also diagnose which clutch needs replaced, it could be the centrifugal clutch and they are more expensive.

Dave, I know you! Ha ha, just kidding. But you're not far from me in Ladysmith. There's a few of us from B.C. on here, but you're the first one I've seen from the Island. Welcome to the site...You'll find good tech support here! :p

Where would be a good place other then ebay for parts ?
I've found a couple websites. But looking for suggestions on sites people have used ?

Where on the island are you located ?

And I'll get pictures of the trike up soon

Thanks

If your looking for OEM parts http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/1983-yamaha-bike-parts/o/m147058
http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/
Those are two i use, i just typed in OEM Yamaha 200e in google and got this http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/#/l/yam/50038842f870021f60a09973/1983-ytm200ek-parts

There is lots of sites, you just have to look. For all discontinued parts though, ebay and this site is pretty much your only hope. Unless you get a parts machine.

Thanks those look the best so far. I've come across similar sites but these seem much more reputable.

I know of a 83 ytm 200e, its sitting at a place i call atv grave yard, just a family that repairs atv's and collects others people "garbage". I recently bought a 84 200es from them and spotted the ytm, they used it around the farm, it ran when they parked it, electric start worked, its been sitting for a number of years in the sun, the plasitc is so faded that its white, missing the seat.... anyways if your ever in fort st john i could give you his number, i was going to buy it but i have to many projects on the go.

Another good online source for parts in DrATV.com. Lots of selection and quite a bit of OEM stuff. Good prices from what I've found too. Shipping isn't too expensive to Canada either. I just put in an order for parts on my ATC90.

Which method did you try to use to post pictures? Did you try to upload them as an attachment? You can upload them to a website like photobucket and embed them right in your post. Once uploaded copy the forum link, itll start with
Here is an example of what it looks like embedded.
[IMG]http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk237/coloredname1/200e_zpsbf718c71.jpg (http://s281.photobucket.com/user/coloredname1/media/200e_zpsbf718c71.jpg.html)

You can also embed youtube videos rather than just sharing a link. Lets you watch it directly from the post.

I'll be straightening it out and putting it back on correctly

Fresh black paint on the blacks
And I unfortunately told the wife the trike was hers and she wants the plastics pink
So she might be going pink till I get her a 4wheeler then I'll be going back to yellow

Yea i hear ya. I tried teaching my girlfriend how to ride my 200s and she didnt get past 2nd. She would keep it high revved in first instead of cruising in 2nd at low rpm. At least your wife enjoys something like this. I would need to get my woman a automatic and probably 4 wheels.

Well can't post to much on here for another 2 months so ill update here for a bit for now.
Like I mentioned before this is going to be a fairly slow build do to having no space to work on it. And limited budget.

When I picked it up the guy gave me a set of bars to replace the bent ones. We will be painting these black.

And I ordered a set of grips me and the wife agreed on from eBay 6 bucks shipped http://bit.ly/1dbOA26

It will be slow going but I will continue to post updates as we go.

Also trying to find a manual online cant sem to find on that works.
Tried here but doesn't load

Funny, my gf wants a quad but she's starting to like 3 wheelers, she is also on the 2nd gear program. She told me the othe day that she would settle for a pink one. I was thinking about buying that 200 I was telling you about and painting it pink Since the plastic is toast, just haven't got around to picking it up.

So when I do get it I'm going to see what it needs, if it runs and doesn't require much I'm going to restore it, if not I will Part it out, not really to make money but to help keep others alive. So you would be first on the list for parts.

Well I'm still waiting to get access to the rest of the forum

Figured I'd make another post about my "project" lol

The are 43.00 after shipping

Might be kinda cool lol

That's all for now I guess

Well like I said before its still slow going. I might pull the carb soon and bring it in the house for cleaning.
We are currently living at father in laws house (saving for a down payment) so the trike unfortunately is tucked away in a corner of the yard snuggled up under a tarp with a lawn mower lol

I did finally order those levers I suggested in last post for the price and what I could find they were my favourite
Also received some fuel filters figured why not .99 for 3 of them.

Anyways it's late and feels like I'm just rambling on
I will continue to update even if it takes me forever to Finnish this project I'm sure once we get our own house and my shop things will pick up.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Dave_D/Mobile%20Uploads/CFE70E73-CE4C-4A16-9491-1299CB1D9D98.jpg

Hour or so later and i was done sanding it

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Dave_D/Mobile%20Uploads/C9E5BD44-32F1-4BCE-8CC4-97564F19F979.jpg

Hung it wiped it down with thinner

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Dave_D/Mobile%20Uploads/39485A8D-75B5-46B7-AAC6-B38056270734.jpg

Let it dry completly, and shot the first coat of paint (i wont bother with multiple pictures of painting it lol)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Dave_D/Mobile%20Uploads/1AF26737-82D7-48A5-ACA5-9EDAEF46E533.jpg

Like I mentioned before this will be a slow going project, with my busy schedual i dont get much free time latley.

More to come later

Thanks

Well fellas, I managed to free up some time. Why not its New Years right.
I dragged the machine out from its corner and put it on a milk crate took the tire off and....
Gasket makerd the clutch cover on (I know frowned upon) but I had to see where I sat with this thing.

Previous owner had the cover off when I picked it up

Put some oil in it. Fresh gas. Couple quick sprays of gas in carb and guess what

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v208/Dave_D/Mobile%20Uploads/87BFEF4C-7F77-4B7A-8DD3-E977E002ADEB.mp4

But with good news at this point is usually followed by bad news
With cover off it appeared clutches were ok upon starting I'm almost certain it needs new tranny gears
Has no first gear but was able to putt around a little in second.

Need a shop bad now so I can pull the motor and get a closer look at everything.

That's all for now

Pic of me and my helper :) lol

I had a 84 200e Yamahauler that I bought just to flip . Looked like urs , better shape ,,, but anyway , I would make sure , or exhaust all other possible problems before I pulled the engine . I have had more than one machine that the guy said it needed a clutch or tranny work , when it was a froze rear brake cable . Is it shifting into 1st ? Maybe its a shift lever , or the splines on the shift shaft . Just saying ,,,

It makes a nasty noise idling loud clunk randomly. It clicks into first makes a little more noise avd struggles to stay running. Struggled to stay running in 2nd as well not sure if it's just cause it's been sitting for at least 2 years or if there's an issue
Not sure where to start from here tranny was first thought

Carb deffanatly needs some attention stuck float or just not sealing starts pissing out the overflow

Haven't updated this thread in a while
I did get a complete tranny plus a few misc items from another member here
Still the wife's lol she's getting more and more excited for it
Can't wait till I have space to work on it and make it the way she has visioned for herself

I picked up a couple big reds (another thread) that I told her she could have instead. But she's still interested in this one

Plus I was NOT painting the big red lol

That's all for right now ill post pics of everything I've accumulated soon (not much of an update but still fun)

Thanks

Not an update but couple questions

I found these 2 gasket kits
Given the choice what one would 3ww use ?

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/360448733286

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/171144862149

Let me know.

Flip flopped on this trike for a bit. Almost sold it
But decided I want to continue bringing it back to life
Still the wife's and she's still interested

Those are YTM 200 gasket kits, most of the gaskets are the same, but the left side of the engine case is different between a 200 and a 200e due to chain vs shaft drive.
If you get a complete gasket kit, you want a 200e kit.

If you want to rebuild the carb, but a kit for a Timberwolf. The two are basically the same carb, but be sure to reuse the jets that are in your carb now. The 200e's are really a pretty nice ride. The forks make a big difference from a trike with no suspension at all. Keep the Yamaha for your wife. Ride the Hondas yourself. Why sell any of them if you can at all avoid it? It doesn't matter if it's pink or not as long as it has three wheels!

Dave_D

Does it matter what year timberwolf ?
Thanks for the advice

no practically all early model yamaha's (moto 4s-timberwolfs tri motos) all had the same carb
so any year timberwolf carb rebuild will be fine!
