I have an iPhone 4 with a trident case. Next one will be the iPhone 5 with a lifeproof case. Simple and easy to use, although apple can play games with you sometime. I've had mine almost 2 years with no problems really. A good case will make a good phone last much longer. I feel androids are pointless as they get "out of date" so quick, but that's opinion. Mine gets the job done, and that's what matter.

Androids get out of date?? Huh, new one on me. I feel the same way about Apple crap... LOL

No matter what you get for a phone get a good case for it, i won't argue about models, features, etc. But get a good case! I have used Otterbox and a few other brands, a good rubberized case to protect it from shock is your best bet.

People all say a really good case. Even just being plastic has broke screens while bending down.

The Galaxy S3 did not work in my home, found tons of posts containing many people with the same issue.

Traded it in at Verizon in 2 weeks for a Galaxy Note 2 which works great everywhere and has a larger antenna; The phone is HUGE.

Whatever phone you want, look online first!

I have a lifeproof case on my iPhone 4S. It has been in my pocket every day at work (I'm a logger) and has never given any problems. I had it in my pocket at the badlands when I swamped my 200x it was under water for about 5 minutes and stayed bone dry. If for any reason the case gets damaged, lifeproof will replace it no questions asked. I am on my 4th case. I recommend the case for sure.

Phones are like an oil thread, you will get all kinds of this is better than that answers.

Technically not out of date, but another newer model comes out as soon as you get yours out of the box and charge it lol
If you like to personalize the crap outta your screens and backgrounds on each page and have a different ringtone made in 3 seconds for each person android is for you. Apple is a little more involved in making ringtone from your music. Androids are nice if you download a lot of music as there are aps to download direct to the phone, some unlimited if you pay the 20$ or whatever for the ap. I am simple, and so is the iPhone. I use google and Craigslist and eBay and Internet. That's about it other than texting, pictures calling that every phone can do.

All I really need is a good camera and internet BUT the craigs list app might cost me more money in the long run  I work on fire trucks for a living now and I go all over the place and need to take pics for warranty and get emails sometimes when working with tech support that's why I'm looking for a phone now. And I like how you can damn near zoom in on all pics with you fingers. Ok I will be doing some checking at verizon this week for a phone THANKS for all the info

I phones suck in the battery dept. since it is an internal battery, you cannot pop a fully charged spare on like you can with other phones. A car charger is a must if you use it a lot during the day.

Here is a handful that I personally like. I just picked up an HTC One (Verizon) for $30 with a new 2 year contract thru Target online. That phone is $149 thru Verizon with a new 2 year contract.

I have never really been big on IPhones, not that there a bad phone, I just think they are a little handicapped compared to a Droid. I think the most durable phone out there without a phone case is hands down the Casio Gzone. There are obviously a lot of phone cases out there that make almost any phone hard to damage.

There are a lot of websites to get reviews from so do your research.. Here is one I use: http://www.phonescoop.com/

I still have my old one, they call it the "Army Phone".

Yes, definitely do your homework!!

I waited 4 extra months to move up to a smart phone so the told me 2 year contract, talk and text unlimited, 60$ a month.

CANNOT beat that with Verizon!!

AT&T, Team Mobile, Metro PCS and other carriers out here do not work well in rural residential.......

BTW Caterpillar, yes, Caterpillar the makers of industrial earth moving machines makes a phone now and claims it to be near indestructible. The screen can flex without breaking.
