Just starting to work on my '83 185s that I purchased in non-running condition. It has good spark and good cylinder, pressure, so I've dumped the old gas in the tank (soaking in vinegar to remove some rust) and disassembled the carb and am soaking the body and jets in carb cleaner right now.

I went inside to look at the manual for specs, and the manual calls out a PD35A (185, not spec'd for 185s) with a #98 (185s) jet. The carb pictured below appears to be a PD011 with a #86 jet (which was nearly un-threaded from the carb body when I removed the bowl LOL)

So anyone know what carb came stock on the '83 185s? Any reason I shouldn't run the current carb?

So many little changes and numbers over the years . Put a kit in it and run it . I would run the bigger main jet and if the kit has a 38 small jet run that instead of the 35 it will idle better with the larger small jet .

The kit came with a #95 main jet and a #38 small jet, so I'll give those a try. The carb was also missing the plastic "skirt" on the main jet. How important is this item? I'll add it to my next order, just wondering if it's crucial to get it running.

On a positive note, the pilot screw actually still had the small washer and o-ring. On the last 3 trike carbs I've cleaned up, this is the first to still have them :)

The plastic shirk isn't that important unless you do a lot of rough riding , it keeps the fuel flow steady during rough terrain .
