so I got my new steering stem bearings and am going to install them but.... they don't come with instructions and they aren't the loose ball bearings that are stock in my trike. these are made by Boss bearings and are just a tapered bearing with a sort of "cup" it sits in, then a seal type piece. I'm not sure how they go in. there's one for the top and bottom of the steering stem, I know which is which... but after that I'm lost. I took apart the extra steering stem I had on another frame to sort of try to figure it all out but didn't get too far. I removed the triple clamp, slid the stem out, took the balls out, popped out the cups inside the neck of the frame... then? the bigger one goes into the bottom... taper side up into the neck or facing downward? then the top one? does it go into the neck or over the stem? it seems too loose to go into the neck... but the iD of the bearing is good for slipping over the stem! do I leave the stock bearing cup/s in the neck?

here is my dilemma... the top bearing seems to be too small on the OD... the ID is fine but the OD seems way too small...

here is the top bearing sitting in the neck on the frame... notice the room all around the sides..

This is the bottom bearing... it seems to be correct on the OD and the ID

This is the new upper bearing along side the old one...

And here is the upper and lower bearings along side the ones I took out.

So am I supposed to keep the bottom part of the old bearing in the neck and let the new one sit on top of it or is the new bearing supposed to fit in the neck the same way as the bottom one does?

You need to show the seller these photos. Something is wrong. The O.D. of the races should be the same as the old ones, I think you have the wrong bearings. Oh, and in case you were still wondering roller bearings are much better than those crappy loose balls the trike came with. Once you get the right ones you'll love them.

yeah I guess im going to have to...it looks like someone there had their mind on riding instead of packing my order....lol...

ill put these in an email and send it too them. i was just outside and kicked the front tire on my trike to see if it was still full of air and the front end moved as the trike stood still... needless to say, my bearings are shot! thanks for confirming the bearings were wrong! have a Merry Christmas!
