Hi everyone, can anyone tell me if there is any difference between the 1985 and 1986 250 big red motor.would the 1985 fit right into the 86 frame?thanks for any info.

Yes, you can drop an 86 motor in to an 85 chassis and visa versa.

Nothing and yes..

Minor engineering changes with stator and carb, but nothing you need to concern with..pop it in!

It is a tricky bit of geometry to get in and out if you haven't done before...

Actually some of the first 250cc engines had a weak crank on the right side. I have had 3-4 of them that the centrifical clutch end of the crank broke and took out the side cases and other stuff.
As far as fitment though the motors swap out with no problem.

Also a 250sx engine fits flawlessly. I had an 85 and started getting a knock so went and bought a 250sx and swapped engines in a couple hours. The only difference (one that I like a lot) is the 250sx engine is black. I think it looks tough in the big red. just personal opinion though.

and the 250sx has a 2 speed tranny also ?

84 200es has hi / lo ,,, 250es is not dual range , but super low 1st gear .
