Hey everyone, I'll keep this sweet and short:
I'm Nick, and I live in West Virginia.

I finally decided to register on this forum after viewing countless threads on it, all be very helpful. I have a bit of a problem of my own, that I will later post in the new members thread sections, that I can't seem to figure out. Anyways, I spend most of my time in a computer (yes, you read right...in a computer). I'm a computer technician, and I love everything about computers! I also enjoy spelunking, which is cave exploring. I recently bought a 1983 Honda Big Red 200e ATC, and I love it to death so far!

Welcome to the forums, I also recently got my first 83' 200e. Awesome machine (even though I could use the reverse).

Thanks for the welcoming. Yeah, the only complaint that I would have of the 200e model is that it didn't have the reverse on it, which isn't necessarily a necessity, but it sure does come in handy!

Thanks for the welcoming.
Here are some pictures that I just took of it.... not in the cleanest or most put together "stage", haha. I haven't had time to clean it yet, and I'm messing with the brake drum..trying to get it off.

Hey,
That 200e is in good shape! Don't let anyone tell you different. I have one too, and have owned it since brand new. Not brand new anymore though, as she has seen lots of ride time over the years. :welcome: and hope you enjoy the site!

Thanks for the welcoming! I was pretty amazed at the condition that it's in, although of course, it does have issues:
the brake drum (as you saw)
bearings
pull starter needs rewound/pieces purchased for it (haven't took it apart yet)
valves need adjusted
needs a seal on the head, as it leaks a bit
front tire needs a plug in it, looses air quite often

I'm dedicated to fixing it up, so I'll definitely keep the community updated with my 'work in progress'. I'm glad to see that there's still people out there that are an original owner of an ATC that still has it and rides it!

I just wanted to let you know your seat has been recovered. The original color is black. Just FYI, definitely not a big deal as you are going to use it and not restore it. Mine doesn't have the original tank stickers anymore, which doesn't matter to me. She fires up and runs well, and that's what matters to me. You do have electric start, right? I mean, it works? I've never really used the pull start, only tried it a couple times many years ago just to see if I could. My electric starter has worked all these years! Haha. As far as rear brake shoes, I've never had much luck with them. Once you get em wet, which they will if u ride through water, they don't seem to last long. Front brake has always worked better.

I was wondering about the seat, thanks for clearing that up. I figured that it had been recovered, and thought that the original color was black, but I wasn't exactly sure on it. Mine does indeed have an electric start that works just fine on it. The battery was dead when I purchased it, and I just hooked it up to a charger and it seems to be holding a charge pretty well now. Hopefully the brakes won't mess up for a while, that is, the drum won't wear out hopefully. The shoes are no problem to replace, you can get aftermarket shoes pretty easily and cheaply. The front brakes on mine seem to work, but I haven't stripped it apart to see the damage as of today, I may do it once I get the backend fixed up.

Good deal on the battery, hope it holds up. They are easily replaceable also. My father used to "make" the brake shoes for it. That's how quick they would wear. I have the "jig" he made to make my own, just need the material. Yes, they are pretty reasonably priced, and they need to be! Lol.

That's really cool, is it cheaper to make your own or purchase a set? The set that I purchased was like $15 or so.

compared to the the bikes we have down hear In louisiana that one might as well be mint. I got my 86 125m in maby a little better shape gave her a good wash and wax a few hondred dollars in parts and she looks almost as good as new. I think if you do the same you will have a amazing trike.
