Hey everyone,

I'm new to this thread and new to Tri Zingers (and ATC's in general!). I recently purchased a 1985 All Red Triz Zinger and have located a spline near the left side foot peg that looks to me like a place for a Shift Lever or a Kick Start Lever. Based on all I have read up on the Tri Zinger, this trike is a single speed, pull start machine. Thus not needing a shift or kick start.

I have included two pictures, one of an exploded view of the Tri Zinger crankcase, area #19 where it states that there should just be a "plug," wherein mine has a splined shaft. The other picture is what it looks like on my atc. If you need a clearer picture, please let me know. I hope all the knowledgeable people on this site will be able to inform me on what this means. I've tried getting another shift lever from another trike onto this shaft, but I believe the splines are bent, not allowing it to go on. Thanks in advance for all your help!

do you have a pull start or kickstart on that trike? also it is time to run the motor vin which is on the right side on the crank case. I would also check the cc on the motor, and see if you have a different motor on that thing. all tri zingers are 2 stroke, and if yours is a four stroke then it is a yfm 80cc badger motor just some things to look for or someone took the tranny out of a badger and put it in your zinger. if that is even possible

She's a pull start engine for sure. The engine serial # 5U9-122610, but having a hard time decoding which model it came from. I'll continue researching as much as possible!

interesting, because the model # for the zinger is 36r not 5u9, I will keep looking into it to see what I can find for you

search over it is a yamaha qt50 motor also known as the yamahopper and that is a kick starter shaft, thank you fleabay and the search for a 5u9 carburetor here is a link to what you are looking at. 183685 this will help you immensely when trying to do any work on the motor, also I am guessing your motor is pieced together with a zinger motor which is why you have a pull start on it.

wow, I wonder when that occurred! Thanks a lot for the information! I'm not home right now but I do recall the 36 on the cylinder head, pieced with a qt50 I guess..interesting combo! So I actually have a Tri Zinger 50cc? Bummer!

it might still be a 60cc the only way to find out is on your first tear down they might have had the cases bored to fit a bigger cylinder, but atleast you'll have a better idea whats in there when you open it up.

I think it is interesting that a moped motor is a direct fit for the tri zinger, and obviously someone somewhere figured it out and told other people.
