Start by saying I'm new here even though I did sign up and post one time a few months ago. I had a 83 a+70 with 88 kit I was thinking about selling and was curious about value. I had already had it for sale on glamisdunes.com and had been contacted by forum member Mr clean. I then decided not to sell at that time but promised when I decided to sell he would be first in line! So after deciding to build a new house, I decided it was time to sale the a+. In past conversation with mike we had talked about kx conversions and that I knew a kid with one when I was a kid, And that I always wanted one! Well mike just happened to know where one was that had been converted to a 4 wheeler. In the time that I was still trying to decide on selling the a+, mike had purchased it. So after contacting mike and telling him I was ready to sell the a+, he said are you still interested in kx conversion? I said yes!! So mike decided to drive here to Austin Texas and bring me kx and pickup the a+! I can't say enough about the transaction! Mike now owns my old a+ and I know it's going to a great home! And know I own this kx conversion. So I have decided to start this build thread to show the progress. Not 100% sure in direction of build, but starting by getting running first! Thanks again Mr clean!!!

You will love it once you get to ride it!
I love my KX80 conversion! Its like riding an angry wasp! Ive got a bit to re-figure on mine but I love it.
can you take a picture of the subframe and of the rear axle carrier? The builders did alot of similar things, im curious about how mine and yours compair.

good luck w the build!

]Started working on kx today. Pulled fuel tank and carb. Gas in tank smelled really bad! Fuel valve leaking and needs new orings. Dumped gas and disassembled carb to find same smell and lots of green varnish. Pulled reed cage and inspected reeds and piston. Reeds ok. Piston looks almost new and is a wiseco. Big end rod bearing looks to be intact and thrust washers visually ok. When you turn motor over has good compression, but just doesn't feel right. Decided to just pull motor and disassemble. Want to just go through and rebuild motor to know its right. Pulled drain plug to find oil that looks like has rusty water in it. Opened up radiator cap to find no coolant and lots of rust and corrosion. Looks like water pump was leaking into tranny and they had been running straight water in cooling system. Went ahead and disassembled motor. Found crank bearings where bad. Going to just buy a crank kit and rebuild complete motor. Plan to port match cases and port cylinder next.

It looks like the just used the stock swingarm and made a adapter that used the stock bike hubs

184056Ya.. thats definitely different.. i have not seen a KX conversion that used the bike hub w the spokes cut..
mine uses a 350x carrier and axle. Its offset to the side to line up the sprockets. I run the rt rim dished backwards and everything is centered.

Yes defiantly different than others that I've seen. Your does look like honda bearing carrier/parts. Does your swingarm setup seem heavy for that little of three wheeler?

my triples are cut stock w a plug welded in to widen them. It runs a offset hub w a quad (I think) front rim.
heres the front rim, you can see the 84 KX drum brake setup on the leg.. I want to do something to make it have front brakesñ just not sure what yet.. lol

nope.. I have done nothing the the trike yet. It is how I bought it but w a set of my rims.
it was forsale here a few years back, i sent kevin shively cash, he picked it up and delivered it to TF.. I bought it sight unseen lol
we pulled it out of his truck around 3am, me, him, thstud and justben ripped it around till it needed gas.. lol

I spoke w the owner of pro design, he said he did not build them like this. He used removable alum subframes, billet clamps and custom carrier/ axle. I believe that mine was a copy of his but not sure who built it.

The 2 others that I have looked at both were done similar to mine but w 84/85 T3 carriers..

its in my storage barn rite now, not at my house, ill grab a few tripple tree picts next time I'm out there. .

What rear plastic is that? Custom or from different trike? Looks like a well thought out kit. I saw the a plus one on here the guy just recently bought in Cali, with the selvys pipe and cylinder. I like the design of the subframe on that one.

I saw that slevey one.. that has a T3 carrier.. we both run a similar subframe and both run lime KLT 200 stock but cut rear fenders just like the pro designs ran.. they might have been built by same guy..
I know of a board member here that has a mold just about done to reproduce a different style rear fender that was used on these mini KX trikes.. so not long till we have an option. . Lol

Bought these two kx60's yesterday for $300.00. The newer one is an 2003 and runs, but needs carb clean and service. The other one is older, not sure on year, but it needs a new cylinder and few other things. Both sets of forks are good and no leaks. Think I'm going to use one to make trike with the swingarm from the quad and try and build a new swingarm for quad with the swingarm from the older dirt bike and some 300ex parts I have???

lol A buddy of mine growing up had (I think it was ) a KDX 80... that little tiny thing was so friggin fast it was nuts!
so you are making this KX into a quad? cool... I wonder can this kit be used on a bigger bike? like a 250?

Yes if you look at the kx in post #2 it's already a quad, but was a motorcycle, then a trike, then converted to quad. I don't want to cut that frame up, so I bought another kx60 to make into a trike. I think I will take swingarm setup off quad now and use to build a trike. Then build a new swingarm for the quad frame using another kx60 swingarm and some honda300ex parts I have. They did make conversion kits for the tecate250 back in the day. I think there is one for sale on eBay right now.

So it's been awhile since I posted on this thread. Been busy with life. So ended up selling the running kx60 for $750 to help with down payment on house. I kept other one and am using for parts and jig for building Swingarm. I got motor rebuilt and ready to use. Just got swingarm together except for chain slider. Pretty proud of swingarm for first try and not being a great welder. Used a mig since don't have a tig. My dad did most of the welding. I'm using 300ex bearing carrier and lonestar axle. Going to use a crf250 master cylinder and kx65 brake pedal for rear brake. Still a long way from finishing, but wanted to update thread. Will post pics

Who did the porting?

SELF27
12-11-2014, 01:56 PM
I did the porting. didn't change port timing, just cleaned up ports, polished exhaust and did the eric gorr intake port mod. didn't want to raise port timing since its for my son to ride. would have like to mill bottom of cylinder and give more bottom end, but decided to just put back together.

Big fan of Eric Gorr's work & books
Those 60's rip for their size.

Considering selling this, just don't have time anymore to mess with it. right now motor is out and rebuilt. I have a ohlins rear shock that would need to be serviced for it and a pro circuit works pipe, and if I can find it a brand new pro circuit silencer. anybody know what I should ask for this? thanks
