Hey guys I am new to the internet and 3hogs which is what I call 3 wheelers, I just got my first big red ever, I traded a 76 Malibu 350 for it and I wanna make the guys with 4hogs jealous. I just ordered 27x12x12 dirt tamers for the back and a 27x10x12 interco swamp lite for the front and a set on itp 112 12x7 wheels, I want to lift it a little and maybe some other things, would like to see pics of what you guys have done, I haven't seen much for 3hogs with the fancy matching wheels, just mostly find pics of the 2 famous ones, one with 30 zillas and the other with I think 28s, they are awsome and I want to see more.

It's a big red 250es I think it's an 86 or 87, will get pics tomaro, now it's got broken fenders and the 25" tires but when I got it it came with a set of perfect plastics and I should have the new wheels and tires in sometime next week, Gianna lift it 1.5 in in the back and maybe 2 or so in the front

I had a Screamin Eagle Harley pipe on my grizzly 660 for awhile. My old neighbor did nothing but complain about my toys when I'd ride them in my yard, so on went the Harley pipe. I made sure to take a little extra time to get my plowing done with the grizzly. Lol

You really get a lot of "bang for you buck" when riding 3 wheelers!

Not only did they send wrong lugs but they sent rim with a 4-3 offset instaid of 5-2 so now I waiting for the wheels to come again. But I ordered some more parts, I ordered some monster hand grips, some hand gaurds, pretty soon i will order a t seat cover, ganna get it black with red flames, only 40 bucks shipped wich I think is a good deal for a custom seat. Then I am going to make some z handlebars, like the ones u would see on a chopper or bobber, they are ez to make and I can build em to fit me perfect.

Sucks about the tires, hopefully the next ones are right.

I really like the direction you are going with this. My affinity for Honda trikes and big Jeeps is to blame here.

Where did you buy a lift for a big red? I don't know if I would go that route on a BR personally, but it definitely interests me!

Z bars sound cool too, I don't know if I would want those bars in a wreck, but danger tends to equal fun for this guy. I think they would look good as long as they aren't too high. Short Z bars I would love to see!

The seat sounds like it matches what I can understand about your personality so far and that's great! Sometimes I say weird stuff that might only make sense to me.

Great ideas on a custom big red, I can't wait to see the whole vision come together:beer

Ya everything I touch usually gets a custom touch, Evan my wife got more tattoos than me, mostly what I do in my free time is build hot rods, lead sleds and I even build a few choppers in there, I took my 57 farmall 450 gas and put a turbo on it and made it look like a 1206, I just like to make best with what I got, I can't afford a new wheeler so no reason I can't deck out what I can afford, and home made bars are cheaper than buying new ones that might not fit me right.

The lift was on ebay, just type motorcycle heightening devices, I bought 2 of em for 7 bucks, just a nice billit spacer.

I like and agree with 100% of that statement, and if I heard you correctly, you are the first person to ever tell me their wife is custom built:w00t:

I build bars because I don't wanna wait for em to ship em!

I just sent the seller of these lifts to start listing them under 2" lift honda big red, I don't think the guys that sell em know much about it, if they start listing it as a lift for br and offer more than it would be a nice little cheap lift and I think a lot of guys on this sight would buy one

Those are awesome. I need some just for experimentation. Remember that when you lift it that way, the drive line angle and the wheelbase will change slightly, and the more vertical positioning of the shock will increase the overall suspension rate to some degree, as the torque angle on the shock and the swingarm is changing as well.

Might be a good idea to keep an eye on the u- joint for wear, and you may want to adjust the preload if its too stiff.

Let us know how she rides with the lift block!

Rustyshacklefed

Without lift and with maire fenders tires do not rub but I am 330lbs and with it lifted 2" when I sit on it it goes to a normal ride hight so that's the main reason I am lifting it, plus the shock is all the way extended and I will back it off 1/2" so it will only have a total of 1.5" of lift from what it is now. And I just picked up the right wheels today, as soon as the blizzard stops I will swap out the wheels and lift it

Didn't feel like I lost any power and it goes through everything now. And I like the style of rear tread it grips going forward and slides going sideways so it will help with not rolling over. Probley ganna put some 1.5" spacers to make it a little more safe. Can't wait till I get the bars done and get a new seat

DohcBikes

Ya I think the spacers will help, sounds like the tires perform great! The bars should bring the whole idea full circle... I think I need a monster Big Red!!

Looks good , Like the idea , working on one myself . I had a SX that someone put a lift on the rear . The drive angle was steep , so I removed it . looking at yours , seems to me that the pivot should be parallel to the rear axle . The normal operation of the swing arm looks to me like it would bind / cause fatigue over time at the connection . Maybe it works because the connections are turned 90 degrees ?

The lift block becomes the shock pivot;)

When I try to start my big red it just clicks once but I don't think it's the battery, will I need a new starter or a cyliniod, anybody know?

DohcBikes
03-24-2014, 10:09 AM
Hey missed the kids new ride! Lookin good!

Some possible causes for the click-

Bad battery.

Weak starter.

Bad solenoid, just cuz it clicks that don't mean it works.

Bad wiring.

Bad switch, just cuz the solenoid clicks that don't mean the switch ain't bad.

Cold starter.

Hot starter.

Bad Battery!

Five bucks says its the battery lol......

Do you have a spare solenoid to try? Its common part and you can make some jumper wires to test it without hacking your wiring,

Did you LOAD TEST the battery?

By the way, this is a common problem on the big reds I think, so do some site searching......
