I'm trying to get an idea of what the sx is going for. I plan on picking one up this spring if the price is right. I want something that is in decent shape so I don't have to go through the whole restore again.
This is ridiculous though-

I kind of like the looks of the red 85's but want the durability of the 86-87 rear ends...

I'm looking for one as well, in original condition. They are starting to go for big money. There is a guy in Illinois who has a near perfect machine selling for 3K.

yeah the one here in IL is nice but not worth 3k. there was a super nice 86 with a plow in same condition as the one on ebay, on the Kenosha/racine cl. it was real nice. still had the decals down by the trailer hitch. I wanted it so bad. he was asking 2k and then went down to 1800 and now I cant find it. this ebay guy may get 2500 but I certainly would not be the one to give it to him. other problem is if you buy one that nice how do you bring yourself to use it.

They are out there, for better prices, although they may not be exactly local.:(

I'm just to picky for my own good :) I would trade off my clean Yamaha 225DX for a 250SX in the same original condition.

See, I just don't think this one is that nice. I would think for that price you could get one in mint condition. The picture without the rack it looks clean but in other pictures it has a rack and looks more beat up, like the tanks faded. Just too used for the price.

You right, in my opinion, it's worth half of what their asking, and that is pushing it. A 2500 machine is as close to original as possible, MINT with paperwork.

Damn if I had $900 for the one in phoenix I'd be on that like white on rice on a paper plate in a snowstorm

one man's "mint" is another man's "rider." there are sx's out there, but, in my experience, you gotta pay to play. rider quality machines and basket cases are readily available, but demand outweighs supply on truly "mint" machines. prices are HIGH.

Trike prices are just getting higher as a whole. Individual parts are ridiculous. There's still good deals out there but I'm finding more and more informed sellers out there the days.

I paid 900 for my 86 250sx..has a few scratches..still had original tires on it...they just arent worth 2500 in my opinion...I see them on craigslist all day for under a thousand..and a lot of them are really nice

It all boils down to what you're willing to pay for it. Everyone has different opinions on the subject, but the fact is, they are going up in value, regardless if they are in mint original condition, or machines that are in fair to good condition

in my area in a mint sx will only bring around 1400 $ and that is for a super clean original 86 with speedo, both racks and headlight guard with original tires like new..and it takes a few months on cl. then I see it 4 sale on e bay for 4000 $ a year later so good luck in your search but if your not in a hurry keep looking 4 a super deal.

188459188458 I sold my all original with title/paperwork 1987 for $1800 last month locally and I believe I sold it too cheap at that price. Maybe I could have got 2-$2500 on ebay but would have had to pay $200 for ebay fees and deal with shipping so I cut it loose.

This is my Marine Corp trike I sold last year. The guy bought it for 1800.00 and its now on CL for 2450.00. I'm curious to see if he actually gets that much for it.

You do nice work James! Like 3Razors, I had an 87 a few years ago but sold it for $1,500 in excellent condition. It seems like there is a huge market for both the 250sx and Big Reds (in the past five months), at least in the northeast anyway.
