1996 Ford F250 crew cab shortbox with the 7.3 powerstroke. As soon as I seen this truck I had to have it.

The 7.3 is where it's at. Good for a half a million if you treat her right. I don't know about the IDI's, but with the Power Strokes they say to keep a spare cam sensor in the glove box. It's a $20 part that takes ten minutes to change but will stop the truck dead when it wants to.
You won't always get there fast, but you will always get there. You can drag your house along if you want as well.

This^^. I have 263k on my 97......and a cam sensor in the glove box. IDI's are mechanical. No cam sensor to go bad but the IDI went away mid 94.

Nice truck! I have three that I am currently watching on Craigslist, hopefully they are still for sale when I get my taxes back in a couple weeks. The one i'm really interested in is a 97 model F350 dually.

The only thing that can out-pull a 7.3L that year from Ford was the 460, but I agree with everyone, the 7.3L is a BA motor, even though I'm not a huge diesel fan. Nice truck.

Slash, you really don't expect me to let this go do you?

If you want to know the difference between the two, I will gladly explain the difference (which is drastic) as I have owned 460's and I currently have a 7.3.

Please. Do not pursue this line of reasoning slash. You could not be more wrong.

The truck has a 4 inch suspension lift, with 35 inch tires. A guy at work says I should pull the twin ibeam and put the solid front axle in out of a F350. I just sold my 97 f250 diesel to my son . Now he wants my new truck. (lol)

Not to be a know it all, but twin I beam is two wheel drive. When they're 4 wheel drive it's "twin traction beam". Not that anyone really cares.
I think I'd prefer the solid front axle, but I've never owned a twin traction beam big truck. I had an F-150 with it and that was fine. I've owned many twin I beams, I currently do actually. I like how they drive but could do without the tire wear. I'd give the twin traction beams a chance, but that's just me. If I didn't like them, then I'd do the swap.

No problem! I will remember twin traction beam. I never really had any complaints about my 97 f250 and tire wear.

If you do decide to go with a solid axle, I recommend that you try to get a kingpin Dana 60.

Good point! King pins all the way!

I never had a Ford with a 460, but I had a old Chevy with a 454. It pulled well, but I would say it wouldn't come close to pulling my trailer like my diesel truck. But in the old Chevy's defence, I was running it on propane and I believe it lost power after I did the conversion.

Solid axle trucks dont handle the best, I got away from them.

Live/solid axles can be made to handle quite nicely. My roommates 98 dodge Cummins has a solid axle and it handles great for a 3/4 ton truck. Solid axle trucks are built for strength and durability, and yes handling too when coupled with a five link setup. Ever ridden in a JK jeep? They handle fantastic. Not a big truck but a solid axle nonetheless.
Both the ttb and the live axles on fords of that vintage are leaf sprung. Of course the twin traction beam rides and even handles better on the ford when unloaded, but in my opinion that's a moot point on a heavy duty diesel truck. A kingpin 60 is where its at on these trucks.
And actually if you really wanna get technical, the camber, caster, and toe on a ttb changes with suspension travel, and when the truck is loaded down. This is not a good thing for the handling characteristics on a big truck.
