just bought this thing the other day paid 60 for it.
probably needs the motor rebuilt. not froze but kinda hard to kick im 6'2" 235 i would think i could easily turn this thing over.
needs the plastics and the seat recovered. frame and tank look ok. maybe some minor wiring.
is 60 an ok price for this or did i over pay.

next does anyone know anyone or anyplace near san antonio, tx that does good work on these motors.

You can't but a single peice of the bike for $60. I have $6000 into mine. You prob have a high compresion 10.25:1 top end. Those are harder to kick over. Post pics. if you can. You can sent you seat to two members on here who recover them, and maier makes new plastics all day long. There are some pitfalls to these bikes and motors but depending on your budget I am not sure if you want to even talk about them. Once they are fixed the bikes can be very fun. Here is my not so stock built X.

You need to do your own motor, these are not hard. You should have your kicker gears back cut. most shops will not touch old motors nor know whats needed for them. You might be better to send it out to a member on here like shortline who will rebuild it right the 1st time. He does good work and rebuild my head with new valve and guides and porting work, also I sent him my 84R forks to rebuild also.

what did you do to spend 6k. i really just want it to look nice and run forever. i plan on painting the frame myself. doing the motor work scares me a little as i dont want to just throw money out the window. but if its easy and rather inexpensive im game.

I know HRE for many years now so my prices might differ from people not knowing him or having access to the shop so that's why I have told him I will not give out his prices on this forum. For prices you can contact him. Many of my bikes parts are listed on this website and are able to be remade as production replacement parts. There costs of parts I bought never used or didn't work like the grand I had into my yz85 inverted front end plus the odds and end parts I didn't keep recipts to.

I got 2 200xs 400each running beat and redid 1 nice one. I might of got $1000 out of selling parts between them both.

I suport a full 10" shock travel and many custom parts, I build a new 200x but made it look old. It's works pretty good, rides and feels like 250R which is what I was after.

For $60 you pretty much stole that thing regardless of the price, they are a great machine. As far as tearing into the engine goes just buy a service manual, they are worth their weight in gold.

will a 250x motor bolt in. any special mods to make to get it to bolt in. i have been considering taking my chances with one on ebay that they claim runs. i have seen them for 300 shipped which seems pretty reasonable. what does it cost to rebuild one. i dont think the motor is locked up as it will turn over half way then stops. can even hear the air coming out of exhaust. maybe a bent valve. im not sure havent got the motor that far apart yet.. are there any upgrades to make to make it better than stock like taking parts from a 250 or 300x that fit without mods?

I work on three wheelers in San Antonio. My number is (210)723-9082. If nothing else, maybe we can get some folks together to do some riding.

these 200x's are they 4 stroke or 2? do they use a clutch? are they a lot faster than a regular 185S or atc 200?

haha.. its not hard at all to spend huge money on these machines... i have a 350X with almost 4k into it and haven't done anything real special... couple small mods like 400ex carb swap and semi-custom exhaust.. the rest was purchase price and small parts to just make it all the better.. good luck, because you'll end up getting the addiction too!! lol

heres my addiction..

4 Stroke, Yes, and Yes.

The 200X was Honda's answer to the "sport" 3 wheeler of the day. Can not be compared to the old 185's and 200's. A closer comparison is to a XR200 dirt bike which has almost the same engine.

OK, now let's help Beau with his 60.00 USD 220X.

Beau, as mentioned above, do not even consider an engine swap until you have determined if the engine you have can be made to run.

First, pull the spark plug and check for spark.

Second, check for engine compression. You can borrow a compression gauge from most automotive stores. If the machine has been sitting, check compression both dry and wet (small amount of oil).

Third, if you have spark and compression, try putting a small amount of gas in the cylinder, put the plug back in and see if the bike will fire.

Forth, if it coughs, you probably has a carburetor problem which is common for bike that have been sitting.

If no spark or compression, repost and members can help you find possible causes.

Old 200X's never die. They are either rebuilt or are disassembled and sold off part by part.

motor wont turn over. i have pulled the motor from the bike and got stopped after i pulled it as the rear mounting bolt was sheared off on one end and bent on the other so i cant get it out of the motor.
i have since dropped off my 2 70's at a mechanic to get those running.
when those are done i am going to focus on my 200es as that motor runs but needs a tank and throttle cable to be drivable.
then the 200x is my next project.
cant wait to get these things running.
