Hi everyone. Looking for opinions here. I came across an '86 250R frame, with triples and forks, for $150. I estimate it will cost me probably 900-1000 for all the other odds and ends, not counting engine, to build a whole machine. Am I way off there? And do you guys think 150 is reasonable for a nice frame and front suspension? All opinions welcome, thanks!

I think for $1200-1500 you should be able to find a nice rider all day long. Or find a more complete roller and spend the $$ on your engine. Just my 2 cents.

New2Tri-Z is right.

But, the frame and front end are well worth $150 so long as the forks are straight.

Whether you buy one already running or build your own, there really isn't a "cheap" way of getting yourself on an R all said and done.

Ive been known to buy a chassis 1st.. then buy a rider.. while im enjoying my rider the other chassis is getting ready for a build w reinforcements, powder coating, paint, bearings ect.. when its time to pull the rider apart, you can swap to a fresh frame.. save down time.. lol
I dont see you going wrong w $150 chassis.. but thats just my opinion.. lol

Projects take lots of time and more money than you think. If you've got the time and money it can be fun. I have always bought riders with little work needed.

I agree with MIK6 Id buy it for a gradual well built on budget project trike and keep looking for a decent rider in the meantime.
