there is not really any life left in the shocks on my 250 SX. The rest of the trike is in great shape. Anyone ever overhaul the shocks? Are parts readily available? I am reluctant to tear them down if its gonna be a head ache! Any threads that someone can direct me to ... or any feedback?

I'm guessing since you said shocks plural, that you are talking about the fronts. I did mine a while back on my project sx and they turned out like new. I suggest you download the SX manual http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manuals/honda/atc250sx_85-87_servicemanual.pdf
and follow the steps. All the seals are still available from Honda, so that part is not a problem.
If your shock boots are shot it's also a great time to change them out as well.

I was just lookin online for Honda OEM shock parts... it appears that most of the parts are all obsolete! I hate to disassemble the front and rear shocks and not be able to source parts. Does anyone else mfg springs, seals, ect if they are needed in the overhaul?

Here's the reality all of us SX riders have to deal with. About all you can do with the front shocks is disassemble, clean, and reassemble with fresh oil seals. The book does give free spring length to deternine if they are within specification. New replacement springs from Honda isn't going to happen. There is a guy here that is selling Votech forks. Basically new forks off the 86 models that were sent to the Votechs for training aids. Good condition and fair price. If you want new, go that route otherwise rebuild yours and press on.

The rear shock is a whole different story. Not rebuildable!!!! Most of them out there have exceeded their service life. The ES shocks out there look like the same shock but it has a very subtle difference so they are not interchangeable so don't be fooled by appearance. I have been on a quest to find a suitable replacement rear shock. Eye to eye is 365mm. A few years ago I put a Chinese gas shock on my SX and with a slight mod to my battery box turned out to be perfect.....That one shock. I recently bought another of that same shock and put it on another SX it was way too soft so the one I have was a fluke so you are more than welcome to join us in finding a suitable replacement rear shock. There are a couple of guys we have been sending our rear shocks to off other models such as the 250R. Suspension 101 and Schmidty's Racing. Those would be the guys to talk to about the correct replacement springs for front and back.

I saw that thread where you tried that, could you post the link on this one I can't find it again.

Ever think that maybe the second one was a faulty, I am interested in trying one, or helping in the quest for a new rear shock.

I had bought a pair of those shocks and both were the same when I put them on. I think this was the thread you were looking for.

Be looking for a shock that between 360-370mm eye to eye. Finding a shock with the right spring rate is the challenge.

Soft forks can be stiffened with thicker oil, stiffer springs and/or reducing the size of the compression holes in the damper rods etc.

Below is the biggest stocking dealer of nos parts. If they list it as available it typically is. In addition to the oil seals, I would also by 2 of item 12 and 9.

Does anyone else mfg springs,
Sure, the place below will make custom springs if off the shelf ones are not readily available.
