I recommend this band below to anyone who is a fan of Queensryche, Iron Maiden or Metallica and similar bands.

If you know the words, it's actually not that bad. I felt the same way about a band called Chelsea Grin that my friend likes for a long time, but once I knew the words, it wasn't actually all that difficult to understand.
But I can definitely see what your saying. It can be tough.
Anyways, I just put this on.

I can tell you looking at the music on my Zune you couldn't tell which Gen I belong to. Opera, Rap, County, Metal, Pop, JPOP, KPOP music from all over the world as well.
Then again I use a Zune so that probably tells it all. :-)

I listen to a many many genres of music from many generations. My record collection is mainly 60/70's. It's my favorite music to listen to. I have a modern turntable for quality but it's powered by a giant 80's 200w 8ohm sound system with the typical dual 4 foot speaker boxes. And then I have my iPod for all my current music.

I’m glad that my daughter likes music from the 70’s and 80’s and doesn’t like rap. I kept my mouth shut for the year that she thought Michael Jackson was the greatest and the 2 years prior to that when Hanna Montana ruled. Now it’s Lady Gaga and Kesha which I can also tolerate, but I did find it funny as heck when we were listening to Poker Face one day in the truck and she heard the lyrics “♪bluffin with my muffin♪” and my 10 year old kid jumps up and says “Dad! Lady Gaga likes muffins too!”
While I still keep my Judas Priest CD’s in the player most of the time I have trouble getting into music that as ebaccm26 so appropriately put it “is screaming at me”.
You young bucks can and should rock on to whatever beat you want, just do us old dudes the favor of not serenading us with it while we pump our gas or wash our cars.

Bosstones. wow. not my favorite band, but certainly one of the best small-venue live shows i've EVER seen. back in 1990-91ish. super high energy, loud, and loaded with smoke-shows in little plaid skirts and nose rings. i was an idiot in all black with a shaved head. i was listening to lots of hardcore back then. not a ton of chicks at a Tree/ChevyS10 show. live and learn i guess. i've been listening to a ton of Primus lately. not sure what resurrected it, but the sailing the seas of cheese album is phenomenal from beginning to end.

yeah I hear ya, back in the day I had a Mohawk that turned into a shaved skull, listening to bands like Warzone, murphy's Law, Agnostic Front... and was also into all the standard Punk stuff as well. Lots of Hardcore and even Straightedge... One of my all time fave bands from Back then is still Minor Threat... I bounced from Punk to hardcore to Straight edge to Ska... Mostly Ska now though. Right now im into a lot of the older stuff from the 60's -70s Jamaican stuff before they all went reggae.

I got a bunch of cool maiden stuff, i posted some of it on the one iron maiden thread. Maybe its like the best maiden song or something. Probably the most expensive is all of Niko's signature drum stuff i got for my kit. The ride cymbal is $500 alone. I wish i would of known there was a signature drum kit all done up in Eddie. Levon Helm!!! Grand daddy of jammin :)
I listen to him at least once a day, any era from the hawks to his later solo career and everything in between. Lots of blues, folk, americana, classic rock. I range from stuff like that and Dr. John, Dylan, The Dead, to Van Halen and Led Zeppelin type stuff all the way to Slayer and Pantera, rounding it out with NAS and Wu-Tang Clan.
Almost everything but top 40 and radio country. I bounce all over the spectrum, my vinyl, CD and digital music collection is all greatly different. A few overlapping artists but only because I like getting newer metal bands albums on vinyl. My original megadeth and metallica pressings are the nicest though.
The Tool AEnima album I have is the coolest one. Both sides of both records have images printed quite intricately.
And to add what I'm listening to.... :)

Iced Earth is badass....I`ve met Jon Shaffer. He was living in Columbus IN. then and he had a Pan and a Knuck both over mirrors parked in the living room. Cool guy. Super talented. I`ve always said I would do an IE marathon as the albums are themed to tell a story. I think he`s got another project goin on called Sons of Liberty or something like that

I just got his Audio book, "Theodore and Woodrow, How Two American Presidents Destroyed Your Constitutional Freedoms" I haven't listened to it yet... lol but soon.
I also snatched a couple of his Lectures off you tube and listen to them every now and then in the car... What I like about him is, it doesn't matter what party you are, if you like your freedom and liberty, he is still worth listening to as he doesn't really choose sides, he talks about freedom and Liberty, not who's better cause he has stuff to say about every president going back to Adams! he is pretty fair in his criticism's of all the politicians who have pissed on the constitution.

WIKI COPY AND PASTE-
Overview and background-
The song is known for its distinct time signatures and corresponding lyrical patterns. The time signatures of the chorus of the song change from 9/8 to 8/8 to 7/8; as drummer Danny Carey says, "It was originally titled 9-8-7. For the time signatures. Then it turned out that 987 was the 16th number of the Fibonacci sequence. So that was cool."[1] It is also apparent that the lyrics are arranged in ascending then descending order of the Fibonacci sequence, which is 1,1,2,3,5,8, based on their syllables. For instance, the first line is "Black. Then. White are. All I see. In my infancy. Red and Yellow then came to be. Reaching out to me. Lets me see."[2] and further examples below.
Interpretation-
In a 2001 interview, singer Maynard James Keenan commented on the lyric mentioning black, white, red and yellow: "I use the archetype stories of North American aboriginals and the themes or colours which appear over and over again in the oral stories handed down through generations. Black, white, red, and yellow play very heavily in aboriginal stories of creation."
The song could also be about the order of colors seen while under the influence of LSD. Alex Grey (the visionary artist who did the album artwork for Lateralus) stated that when he closed his eyes on an LSD trip, he saw a black and white spiral, and when he tried it a few more times it became a red and yellow spiral.
The line "As below so above and beyond, I imagine" is a quote from one of the Seven Aphorisms of Summum and is also a direct reference to Hermeticism and the Emerald Tablet.
An interesting side note, in alchemy "The Great Work" begins with the Nigredo (black), then moves to the Albedo (white), then the Citrinitas (yellow), then the Rubedo (Red).
Mathematical significance-
Counting between pauses, the syllables in Maynard James Keenan's vocals during the verses form the first few Fibonacci numbers, ascending and descending:[3][5]
Loudwire listed Lateralus as the number 1 on the list of the Top 50 Metal Songs of the 21st Century.

I speak peace when peace is spoken
But I speak war when your hate is provoking
The season is open 24-7-365
Man up yo time to ride
No need to hide behind slogans of deceit
Claiming that you're a religion of peace
We just don't believe you
We can clearly see through
The madness that you're feeding your people
Jihad the cry of your unholy war
Using the willing, the weak and poor
From birth drowning in propaganda, rhetoric and slander
All we can say is damn ya
My forefathers fought and died for this here
I'm stronger than your war of fear
Are we clear?
If you step in my hood
It's understood
It's open season
I don't need a faith that's blind
Where death and hate bring me peace of mind
With views that are stuck deep in the seventh century
So much sand in your eyes to blind to see
The venom that you leaders preach
Is the path to your own destruction
Your own demise
You might say that I don't understand but your disgust for me is what I realize
Surprise!
Your homicidal ways has got the whole world watching
Whole world scoping
So if you bring it to my home base
Best believe it
The season's open
I see you
Hell yeah I see you
trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotr ailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro now
I don't wanna be you
If you come to my place
I'll drop more than just some bass
Yo you'll get a taste of a

I ain't worrying not a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotr ailpro bit
I'm telescoping like Hubble
Yo you in trouble
Yo on the double
I'm wild with mine
Bring that style with mine
trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro with my family I'll end your life
Just the way it is
Just the way it be
Do you understand?
No matter if you're woman or man, or child
My profile is crazy
That trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro you do doesn't amaze me
I'm ready to blaze thee
I don't give a damn what god you claim
I've seen the innocent that you've slain
On my streets you're just fair game
Like a pig walk to your slaughter
The heat here is so much hotter
And my views won't teeter totter or fluctuate
Step to me you just met your fate
And I'll annihilate
With the skill of a Shogun assassin
Slicing and dicing precise with a passion
In any shape form or fashion
Bring it to my home
Welcome to the danger zone
Cause your attitude's the reason
The triggers keep squeezing
The hunt is on and it's open season

Just bought the latest (and last ever) Pink Floyd disc- The Endless River. If you're a Gilmour fan (Division Bell, On an Island...) you'll love it. If you're a Waters fan (The Wall, The Final Cut) it probably won't be your thing.

Reading another thread this morning I couldn't help but remember this song 'Got To Kill Captain Stupid'
I'm glad to see many of you younger guys(?) having your poop in a group when it comes to this stuff. At least I assume most of you in this thread are younger (I'm 55 in April).
Here's a harsh reality, and no, I'm not criticizing: There is not one person on this site who couldn't have done better in life, MYSELF INCLUDED. Went to college, community college, trade school or whatever. Worked more hours, done a little more ass kissing at work to move up the ladder, worked late more often, etc.
The only one responsible for where they are at in life is themselves.
There will ALWAYS be someone who has more than you.
One more thing: For those who say "There's nothing I can do about it", that's a whiney cop out, and one of the reasons this country is turning to shyte. If every person I ever heard say that would actually do SOMETHING we wouldn't be where we are at today.
So there you have it. Flame me. Hate me. Call me names. Whateva. I base my ethical and moral standards on what made this country successful. It wasn't a bunch whiney ass crybabies lookin for handouts.

The song has folk/early blues roots and has had a few different versions since the 30's. I think it's one of those songs thst has had so many different interpretations over the years that none of them are right or wrong. The Animals version is a house of ill repute named "The Rising Sun", or so the legend goes?

Great song, my old music teacher who grew up with Eric Burdon of the Animals told him that, but he did not write the song, but the info was passed to him.
