SprintNL here, I've had a 1985 Honda ATC 110 for about 6 months and love riding it around. I live near a river/lake, with the cold this year its been a blast taking the trike out on the ice and sliding around. The only bad part about it is I'm finding myself wanting a bigger three wheeler!

Quick question - can someone tell me the valve clearance specs for a 85 ATC 110 and a 77 ATC 90? I have a service manual for both but wasn't able to find it in there.

ATC110= 0.003" intake & exhaust(0.07mm)
ATC90= 0.002" intake & exhaust(0.05mm)
"T" mark on rotor is for TDC, make sure engine is cold and both valves are closed (TDC compression)
and a little too loose is better than a little too tight!

and by the way, welcome!

How many set with feeler gauges? I don't have a wealth of experience doing it, but I set it by feel, right or wrong. If you can wiggle the rocker arm up and down and make a good tapping sound, it's too loose. If you can't wiggle the rocker arm at all, too tight. Somewhere in between is "just right"...

Manual says to be sure it's on TDC to adjust valves,
not just when they go slack.
New question:
do valves tend to go loose or tight after time/heat?
We rarely see burnt valves on here.

I have seen a few Honda CT90's that were too tight, also a few Suzuki LT230's that were so tight they wouldn't start, and a KLX125 that was just tight enough to start, but pop back through the carb when hot. As they say, your mileage may vary....

Hello SprintNL;

The orig manual below says .05mm or .002" for both the 90 and 110 on page 71. .003" is close enough, looser is better than tighter. :wondering

I don't generally use a feeler gauge either, sometimes i will just to see if they are truly out of whack, but generally i do the wiggle and noise test and adjust them to my liking. Not scientific i know, but i have adjust them with the feeler gauge and they still seem too noisy and then i do it by feel and sound and they are just about perfect. Its hard to get a feeler gauge to sit in there just right.

You need to get the "feel" of it, so you can dispense with using a "feeler" gauge apparently :)
Yeah, I should've mentioned in my previous post that I DO set the engine to TDC before adjusting....I just don't use a feeler gauge when I make the adjustments.
