i got my engine side covers off finally and i think that im seeing some metal flake in the oil on the clutch side.
im only getting 1 shift up and then 1 shift back down or vice versa, i was wondering if the fact that i have no oil in it and or that it isnt running is causing it to not shift more than once... or if i have a larger problem in there?

My experience (200s) has been needing to turn the output shaft a little between shifts. But you should definitely be able to shift it even when there's no oil.

Hello MisterRoboto;
yes oil is irrelevant as webbch says.
you can NOT shift it through the gears unless the counter shaft or the engine is turning.
you can out it on a box with the rear wheels in the air, remove the spark plug have someone keep pulling the starter rope at a moderate speed which will simulate a running engine as you shift it.
check the metal with a magnet, if it does NOT stick it is aluminum, this is bad.
if it DOES stick, it is steel and this is possibly VERY, VERY bad.

Its not going to shift through the gears without the engine running or it turning. If you have the 200ES motor out on the bench you can turn the output shaft and walk it through the gears, but it won't click through the gears without anything turning.
