Welcome aboard! You can check everything except the CDI module with an ohmmeter. Also, have you tried unhooking the kill switch? If the switch is shorted internally you will get a no-spark condition.

Hi and welcome.
see if you can click on:
service manual

It will get you the specs and how to check electrical components.
The cdi test is in there but I've never had any luck checking them except for
swapping with a known working cdi.

Kb0nly did a geat cdi writeup and how to wire in an inexpensive
cdi from dratv in Nebraska.
Does 'not getting fire' mean it won't fire or truly no spark at all?
How are the connections in the harness?
grounds nice and clean?
the 85 200s is pull start only?
Any spark with the spark plug cap off an the wire resting on the engine?

yes i tried it with the kill switch disconected, put on another coild off another wheeler and got spark.it poped and backfired 2 wice before my back gave out pulling it,still wouldnt start.

couldnt get the links to work,It had no spark at all until today when i installed a used coil off another 4 broken down wheeler.(not excactly the same but got fire, kinda weak)i got the motor to pop and backfire once before my back gave out pulling the damn thing over.im slowly getting beat down by it,ive verified all grounds good and clean,i even installed another ground wire from recoil housing nut to frame.the motor turn over really hard and is showing 130 psi compression,

Welcome fellow Mainer! Where are you in maine? Have you been through the fuel system yet? Clean tank clean carb fresh plug? A lot of times it's the smallest thing that holds us up?
I have a bunch of spare 200s stuff if you need anything.

Im in gorham, ive cleaned the tank, replaced fuel lines, cleaned the carb really well except i cant get a carb index tool to go through the pilot jet lengthways.Does the hole go all the way through the center of pilot tube?the holes on sides are clear.Im also getting really confused with setting timing correctly.followed a link off here several times and seems dead on.I did get it to backfire yesterday after putting a heatgun on the cdi box.just coinincedence?

well i found a part of the problem it pulled hard and wouldnt start.the cam chain had jumped to the inside of the adjusters and was dragging.im sure it was throwing timing off also.still fighting carberator low speed jet problem, not sure if center hole is supposed to go all way through.if so mine is clogged solid.

Pretty sure the hole in the pilot should go all the way through. I have extras if you need one or you can get one through JetsRus.com or you can buy a new cheapie carb off eBay for about $20. I've never used one so I can't comment on their quality but people on here have with good results.

im gonna be replacing the rings today,i cleaned up the valves, lapped them in and replaced seals yesterday.the carb is clean and good to go,spark is ok.gotta be compression cause i could only get 85 psi without a shot of oil in head and 90 psi with a shot of oil.plus the endgap readings on rings were well above limits

well i replaced the rings today and compression didnt get any better.when i had the head off i had a guy replace the valve seals and lap the valves in so i doubt compression loss there.i couldnt get it to fire as everytime i cut on gas to carb it overflowed gas and fouls plug.ive cleaned the carb several times and cant seem to get it straight.they pretty damn simple but guess its smarter than me.

Is it overflowing gas out if the tube on the bottom of the carb?? If so most likely you float is either stuck or the seat is worn. Next time you turn on the gas, give it a whack with the big end of a screw driver and listen for a suckin sound.

im guessing the feul doesnt shut off when float is to set level and it pours out the front and back of carb, ive cleaned it many many times and found nothing for dirt.

got the carb straight but still wont start due to low or weak spark, anyone have any ideas?im thinking its either the cdi controll box, pulser coil or weak ignition coil.anyone have theese items to sell or how can i prove them good or bad?
