Hey,

I've been working on getting a 1983 ATC 200 running and in trying to track down the culprit(s) of why this machine won't start, I ran into this little gizmo. I see nothing in the manual to show what this might be. Looks like the previous owner spliced into the wiring and added it for some reason. It's a little box about 1.5" square with the yellow wire coming out and tapped into the harness by the carb and another wire (brown) coming from this box to ground. This little box has a green potting inside the core and you can see some soldered connections inside it.
It's just zip-tied to the frame and I have no idea what purpose it serves. I just hope it's not keeping me from getting this machine started. Any help is much appreciated!189852189853

I'll add one more pic showing it a little closer...189854

Hope that shows it a little better.

voltage regulator - usually used for lights. What's the yellow wire connect to? Should be a yellow wire coming out of LH crankcase/flywheel cover.

Yup, thats a AC regulator that someone wired on to help prevent blowing headlight and taillights. Nothing to do with the ignition system.
