Hey folks, new to the forum and I could use some help.
I recently acquired a 1980 ATC 185. A friend got it running and I'm going through and doing some parts upgrades. I took the front wheel off to look at the brakes and I can't take the brake assembly off of the axle. It looks like the assembly is rusted to the axle. I've tried PB Blaster and heated the area up but it won't budge.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Get a bigger hammer? Use a press? I had to pound the front axle out on my '83 185s to check the brakes, but it clearly wasn't stuck like yours. Unless the '80 is different, there's nothing securing the axle in the housing other than corrosion.

I'm using a rubber mallet and I've hit it pretty hard. Maybe not hard enough. When you say "use a press" what type of a press do you mean? Sorry, I'm new to this stuff. Thanks for the reply webbch!

Seems to be a common problem on these..I had one I had to cut off and then press apart in the hydraulic press. Sounds like you're on the right track, heat and lots of lube!
