that bidding is blowing up! Probably the most sought after ATC besides the other 1987 models (250R, 350X).

Man...I'd love to see an 87 350x...

So it's a restoration not a new untouched trike. Kinda crazy on the bids already.

Ive never understood why people bid anytime before the last 15 seconds. Decide what your max price is and enter it, no need to get into a big wee wee contest in the first day.

. Not just any restoration, it's a VMS resto down to the nut and bolt inside and out, its just new 'again'.

I'd be bidding uhhmmm, 15 -18K on that.

I have 2 crate motors; I can build 2 more with just a few steps...............

His reserve may be around the 10k mark.
I wonder if he's actually making money on it? I mean, three NOS wheels and tires alone went for over 1,700 last year, crate motors are 1200+, it adds up quick

8,801.99 and reserve is still not met!

I agree with rg97, the reserve is prob around the 10K mark, I think Mike has done these bikes for 12K in the past but prices keep rising because of the NOS parts are harder to find and some are becoming extinct. It's brand new IMO, more than just a restoration and probably built better than a true factory showroom bike. I am curious to see how this auction goes.

Hey guys , thought I would jump in and say Hi. Been watching this one myself, I built this bike I think it was around 7 years ago I know the current owner very well but that is not the original guy I built it for he bought it from him a few years back. as much as this looks like a ton of money it still is way cheaper than if you wanted to try to build one with this many NOS parts today. Back when I built this one I had a fair amount of the NOS parts in stock and my customer had a bunch as well that he was collecting over the past 10 years . try to find any of that stuff today man it would take years to get the parts list together just to start and the cost in just the raw parts would waay pass what the current price is now and that doesnt include a nice complete original doner bike and then the labor and sub work to make it all happen. ufortunatley our days are numbered as how many more all nos parts bikes we can even build anymore the parts supplies are drying up quick. Its fun to see my old bikes go to new homes now and again . I will be watching this one

Can anybody tell me why the original link stopped working before the auction ended and now its a different link to see what it sold for?

By the way the guy that bought it is a member here. He had posted of his purchase in this thread, but must have decided to delete it.

I saw that his post was gone, I figured that it was a mod who figured he was trying to troll us. Not sure though. You could be right.

The reason it stopped working is because In the start of this thread I had copied/pasted the link to "items for sale from theboy" ,active items and he no longer has anything for sale. The recent link I copied/pasted is the actual listing while viewing it. I didn't see the post from the buyer, missed that.

Isn't this your comment to the buyer?

Edit; I re-read the whole thing it appears your replying to vintagemotoraports.
I did see the buyers post it was something short like " it went to a good home, just need to get the basement ready."
When I first saw it I remembered seein your post right after it. My bad:beer

Impressive that this went for $10k.

...and then there's my dad who thinks they are only worth $500...

I think 10K happens to be a bargain, I sold my last one that was clean for over 8,000 but no where near perfect. Try finding a 87 200X first of all and one that is in decent shape for under 4000, next try finding all the NOS parts for the bike and then have Mike restore the bike. You couldn't do it for double that and I don't think you could find the parts. Remember they only made 2800 of these bikes and the plastics have been discontinued for some time now. Mike does by far the best restorations I have ever seen and everyone on this site knows his work is the best.

your right there Donzi that was a bargain at that price I would venture to say starting from ground zero at todays parts prices and avalibility you could never build another for that price . To answer the other question on projects going on now. I have all types of cool vintage bikes here in the shop being restored not all 3 wheeler related but I have my hands full with ATCs as well. I have been doing alot of work for my customer in Holland alot of really rare MX bikes I have a HRC RS600 flat tracker and some mini bikes for my buddy Rich Winkler owner of dirt wurx the supercross track builder so definitley keeping things rolling, attached a few pics of some bikes that left in the past few weeks , a 1973 CR250 for a good customer in CA and another blue US90 for a customer in Kodiak Alaska and 3 more us90s in the works now . I will try to post up some ATC pics as they come through the shop . Thanks for everyones positive comments on my work its what makes all this crazy stuff worth it .

Mike,

Just out of curiousity have you done any other 87 Honda 200X's? I am curious how many are out there.

vintagemotorsports
04-10-2014, 10:58 AM
I have built 2 87s at this point both are pretty much equal and I have my personal 87 200x that I plan on starting at some point . I have been collecting nos parts for mine for approx 10 years. Mine might be a little bit more over the top just because of the amount of nos parts I have for it but pretty equal looks wise.

Anyone know of a good shipper. I am not looking for a big company but rather a one off guy who is very careful with precious cargo? Looking for someone going from Maryland to Connecticut.

Congrats Chris! I have had my 87 for 5 years now and don't ever plan on selling it, I am sure you will feel the same. Sometimes I just sit in my garage and foam at the mouth while I stare at it . We are very fortunate that we have someone like Mike to put these bikes back to their former glory. I'm sure your bike will get to your place without any issues.

I was just thinking that myself UV from the sun is a killer , they make some good UV filtering shades that will protect it . also I use a product called formula 303 its a liguid UV protectant for rubber and plastic works real good

Donzi26zx
04-28-2014, 11:22 AM
I have a sheet over it, hopefully at is good or I am going to have to look for a UV protectant option!

DohcBikes
04-28-2014, 11:51 AM
Take it from a guy in Arizona, that sheet will not protect from UV. Another option would be to tint the glass. There are many residential tint companies these days and many new tint products that protect from UV better than ever before.

Its just too cool man. In my opinion you have one of the nicest three wheelers on earth right there.

Donzi26zx
04-29-2014, 08:26 AM
I might have to come up with an alternate plan, I have a great wife but tinting the windows might be pushing it just a little bit. I might have to switch it to the other corner where there isn't a window right on the bike.
