I have a 1985 Honda 250 SX, and the thumb throttle will not move at all. You can force it and it will be loose, but it will not control the carb. Could the issue be with the cable or the carb? No matter what the issue is I need to know where I can get replacement parts? Is there a good online place to get a break down on how everything works?

Thanks for any help!

My first guess would be that your throttle cable is froze up. Probably the easiest way to check would be to look on the right side of the carb, there is a black plastic cover held on by 2 phillips head screws. Take that off and underneath it is the throttle linkage. See if the piece that the cable's hooked too will turn. If it turns freely, then you just need to get a new throttle cable, which are around $20 on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-ATC250SX-250SX-Throttle-Cable-1985-1987-NEW-/390817032672?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5afe82a9e0&vxp=mtr).

If the throttle won't turn, it's seized up, and you'll need a major carb rebuild.

Somewhere on the boards there are links to all the service manuals for nearly every 3 wheeler ever made. Personally I think that the $25 for a Clymer Service Manual is a good investment though. But I'm kinda old fashioned and like to have a paper copy lol.

Thank you and yes I like to have a paper copy too. I was just on Ebay looking at service manuals and was wondering if it would be worth buying one.

Ok, I'm looking at service manuals and have found two of them. One is Clymer Service Manual for Honda TRX200 ATC250ES ATC250SX and the other is the Honda 1985-1987 ATC 250SX Service Manual 19 Chapters. Big difference in price, which one is the most user friendly? Is that the only two made?

Thanks again for all the help, this is the first time for me trying to restore a 3 wheeler. I have restored/fixed up a few cars but this is new too me.

Here is the link to the manual. If you have a printer, just print it out.

I have the Clymer manual you mentioned, and I like it alot. It's got step by step instructions for everything, with lots of pictures and exploded diagrams to help with puttin stuff back together.

I like to have both.

The clymer manuals tend to show more tricks for hobby type shops, so you don't have to have so many specialized tools, and oftenexplain things in a way that people who aren't technicians can understand better.

That factory service manuals generally have a lot more specs and tend to lean towards using more specialized tools for some repairs.

A mix of both, two takes on how to do the job, is helpful in many ways, but I'm weird about reading manuals. I like to read them cover to cover like novels before I work on any machine, and I must say, the clymer is usually a better read. Lol.
